Position Summary

The Shop/Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy construction equipment, trucks, and support vehicles to ensure safe and efficient operation. This position performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, brakes, drivetrains, and other mechanical components. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced construction environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on heavy construction equipment and vehicles.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic issues using diagnostic tools and industry best practices.
• Repair and maintain equipment including loaders, excavators, dozers, skid steers, haul trucks, crushers, conveyors, and other construction-related machinery.
• Inspect equipment for safety and operational deficiencies and recommend required repairs.
• Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, fuel systems, and hydraulic systems.
• Complete work orders, maintenance records, and inspection reports accurately and in a timely manner.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
• Operate welding and cutting equipment for repairs and fabrication as needed.
• Assist with field repairs when equipment breakdowns occur on job sites.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and manufacturer specifications.
• Communicate repair status and equipment needs with supervisors and operations personnel.
• Maintain inventory of tools, parts, and shop supplies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience repairing heavy equipment, diesel trucks, or construction machinery preferred.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and heavy equipment repair.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents.
• Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and repair tools.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and on-call schedules as business needs require.

• Technical school or vocational training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field.
• CDL (Commercial Driver's License).
• ASE, CAT, Komatsu, John Deere, Cummins, or other industry certifications.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
• Experience in aggregate, road construction, asphalt, concrete, or civil construction operations.

• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift more with assistance.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and reach for extended periods.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to work around moving machinery, dust, noise, grease, and vibration.
• Visual acuity sufficient to inspect equipment and diagnose mechanical failures.
