OMNI Engineering, a CRH company, started its business in 1985 in Omaha, Nebraska. OMNI is involved in heavy highway construction as well as private and commercial site construction. Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots. Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.
The Quality Control Manager will lead and manage the quality control department to ensure hot mix asphalt and component materials comply with the applicable requirements and specifications. Conduct research and review the research of others to improve the company's product quality and profitability.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures as well as in full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, MSHA, etc.
- Manage daily quality control operations and QC personnel in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable employment laws. This includes training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding employees, disciplining employees, long term personnel development and succession planning, as well as addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Responsible for the development and design of all HMA mix designs, gradations, and specifications.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with General Managers, Plant Managers, in-house testing personnel, state and local testing labs, existing and new customers.
- Work with the Sales and Marketing Department on customer requirements for quotes, submittals, etc.
- Manage the collection and analysis of HMA production and construction data. Recommend appropriate adjustments to the production staff to bring processes into compliance with applicable standards and follow-up on actions taken to ensure anticipated results are obtained.
- Build customer relations, investigate product quality complaints or issues, and recommend operational changes as needed.
- Develops implements and evaluates programs and procedures to ensure quality.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university and five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Civil Engineering, PE, HMA Plant and/or Paving Technician Classification or similar experience preferred.
- ACI Field Grade I, ACI Strength, and ACI Aggregate Grade I Certifications preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to travel on occasion and work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Must be proficient in Microsoft suite of tools including Excel, Word and Outlook, and database software. Must be able to utilize internet and communicate effectively.
- Must be willing to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
- Must display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Must display a willingness and ability to work in and adapt to changes in circumstances, tasks, customer needs and other conditions that may affect their daily responsibilities.

- Must be familiar with local municipality and DOT specifications, such as sampling frequency, sampling methods, graduation requirements, quality requirements, etc.
- Must learn and maintain a solid understanding of plant practices and quality control procedures.
- Ability to detect safety hazards and malfunctions and respond accordingly.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret architectural and engineering documents, as well as ACI, ASTM, and AASHTO Standards.
- Ability to diagnose and remedy quality control issues.

- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, talk, hear and lift and/or move.
- Regularly required to sit and use hands and fingers to manipulate/handle objects.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, climb or balance, lift, carry and hold materials, tools, and supplies crawl and crouch.
- Able to communicate with others by telephone and in person.
- Able to utilize office equipment including a computer for word processing, email communication, and preparation of documents and presentations.
- Able to regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the field duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment) is required, and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions. While performing non-field duties in this position, the environment is typical of an office setting and the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.
