Job Summary
Dryer Operators are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a fluid bed or rotary dryer and associated conveying equipment in the drying process. Duties include start-up, operation, adjustment to proper parameters, basic preventative maintenance, and cleaning of the equipment and work areas, as well as the safe operation of a front-end loader and other mobile equipment.
Job Responsibilities
- Read job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements
- Observe dryer operation and perform adjustments to maintain set parameters
- Receive bulk truckloads of aggregates from outside carriers
- Operate a front-end loader to fill bulk material silos to meet daily production demands
- Perform routine machine maintenance
- Startup machinery for daily production
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and communicate maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel
- Perform housekeeping tasks
- Monitor product quality and dryer operating conditions, including temperatures, airflow, and moisture levels and make adjustments as necessary to meet specifications
- Maintain production records and communicate operational issues to supervisors and maintenance personnel
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements to maintain a safe work environment
- Identify and report safety hazards, equipment issues, and near-miss incidents promptly
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and safely operate equipment in accordance with company standards
- Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- A minimum of 1 year manufacturing experience
- Ability to work with little supervision
- Ability to read and interpret operating procedures, safety rules, and production instructions
- Capability to use basic math skills to support operational, inventory, reporting, or transactional activities.
- Previous experience operating front-end loaders or similar heavy equipment preferred
- Constant work performed in a manufacturing facility with exposure to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, weather conditions, and noise
- Frequent ability to climb stairs and ladders
- Frequent ability to bend, stoop, reach, push, pull, stand, sit, squat
- Frequently lift, carry, push, pull, and move materials weighing up to 85 pounds
- Good manual dexterity, multi-limb coordination and stamina
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, metatarsal footwear, and other protective gear as required
- Demonstrated reliability and ability to maintain regular attendance and punctuality
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
