Construction / QC Internship (May - August 2026) - Austin, TX

The Internship Program offers college students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in materials testing, asphalt quality control, and field-based construction research. Interns will work alongside experienced laboratory technicians, field inspectors, and operations personnel to understand how quality standards are developed, measured, and maintained in asphalt production and paving operations. This role emphasizes professional development through real-world application of engineering and technical coursework, allowing interns to build both interpersonal and analytical skills in a collaborative team environment. Interns will also have the opportunity to network with Company leaders while presenting internship experiences and findings.

Interns gain a streamlined understanding of hot-mix asphalt production, quality control during both manufacturing and placement, and foundational materials research, with brief exposure to paving operations to see how each component connects in practice.

Job Description Summary

  • Learn how asphalt materials are produced through hands-on exposure to hot-mix plant operations.
  • Support quality monitoring activities during production, including sampling, inspection, and process tracking.
  • Learn and apply standard test methods (e.g., aggregate gradation, asphalt content, compaction testing, volumetrics).
  • Perform hands-on testing in the hot-mix asphalt (HMA) quality control laboratory, including sampling, specimen preparation, and material property testing.
  • Assist with data collection, documentation, and analysis to support mix design verification and production monitoring.
  • Support research initiatives focused on materials performance, mix optimization, and process improvement by conducting data analysis, preparing reports, and evaluating new technologies or materials.
  • Observe and assist with density testing, temperature monitoring, and field quality assurance procedures.
  • Gain exposure to construction site operations and understand how laboratory results correlate with field performance.
  • Learn and follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations to maintain a safe working environment, and actively participate in safety meetings.

Work Requirements
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical.
  • Must be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
  • Must be at least age 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.
  • Candidates must possess a strong work ethic
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done
  • Strong organizational skills and time management
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Be able to effectively carry out assigned duties in varying work environments and in different terrain (including various weather conditions)
  • Flexible with work locations - must be able to travel/relocate for the work term
  • Personal transportation required and a valid driver license, we provide mileage reimbursement.


Education / Experience

Students must be working toward a degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Geology, Materials Science, or a related field. Must be available to work full-time during the summer semester of 2026 (May through August).
