Its primary business involves the manufacture and placement of asphalt for roads, city streets and parking lots. Currently, OMNI Engineering employs around 200 employees and remains a competitive force in the Omaha market.
Position Overview
The Concrete Laborer position is responsible for performing a range of physical duties on construction sites which include cleaning and preparing the site, loading and unloading materials digging trenches, compacting soil, and assisting other construction workers with various tasks at different on-site plant locations.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
- Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
- Partner and support construction/paving crew by shoveling and raking, operating a wheelbarrow, and safely guiding or dumping into various pieces of equipment.
- Communicate and signal equipment operators using hand signals to guide placement and movement of materials.
- Follow direction of Foreman for daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
- May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer.
- Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials.
- Handwork including constructing forms, spreading construction materials with rake/shovel, smoothing surfaces using floats and trowels.
- Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies.
- Assists in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- Experience in a building materials/construction industry preferred.
Work Requirements
- Must be 18 years in age or older.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must maintain a valid driver's license.
- Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee and Safety Policy Manuals/Handbooks.
- Regular and consistent attendance is required and must be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
- Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required (less than 10% of the time) or must be willing to travel to other locations frequently within the workday.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in concrete construction.
- Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to work at elevated heights and perform tasks in confined or restricted spaces.
Physical Requirements

- Frequently required to stand, sit, crawl, lift and carry, kneel, use of hands and fingers to manipulate objects, controls and equipment.
- Regularly required to walk, climb, balance, bend or stoop, crouch, push or pull and reach with hands and arms above shoulders.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights as well as work in tight quarters.
- Frequently lift and/or move 5-15 lbs.
- Regularly lift and/or move 25-25 lbs.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. A variety of noise levels, adverse weather conditions, and complex job sites are to be expected daily. Proper clothing, PPE (personal protective equipment), and safety precautions should be taken to ensure your safety, and the safety of others in all conditions.
