Job Summary
The CNC Programmer is responsible for developing, testing, and optimizing CNC and Wire EDM programs to support the efficient production of high-quality metal components. This position translates engineering drawings and design specifications into accurate machine instructions, sets up tooling and fixtures, and ensures machining processes meet established quality, productivity, and safety standards. The CNC Programmer utilizes CAD/CAM software, precision measuring equipment, and lean manufacturing principles to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and maintain dimensional accuracy. Working closely with engineering, maintenance, and production teams, this role plays a key part in troubleshooting machining issues, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring reliable performance of CNC machining operations.
Job Responsibilities
- Program CNC & Wire EDM to create profiles for Extrusion Operations & Maintenance
- Develop, test, and refine CNC programs for various machines including CNC lathes, milling machines, and 5-axis CNC machines using CAD/CAM software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, or AutoCAD
- Interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and engineering drawings to accurately translate design specifications into machine instructions
- Set up CNC machining tools and fixtures, ensuring proper alignment and calibration using precision measurement instruments like bore gauges, micrometers, calipers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM)
- Optimize machining processes by applying lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance quality
- Troubleshoot programming issues or machining defects promptly to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules
- Conduct quality control inspections utilizing precision measurement tools to verify dimensional accuracy against specifications
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve tooling designs, machining parameters, and overall manufacturing processes
Job Requirements
- Proven experience programming CNC Machinery such as Fanuc controls, CNC Milling machines, CNC Lathes, or 5-axis CNC Machines
- Strong Knowledge of CAD software including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or CATIA for engineering design and Schematics interpretation
- Familiarity with CAM software for generating tool paths and machining strategies
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards
- Mechanical knowledge with experience in metal machining processes like electrical discharge machining (EDM) is preferred
- Skilled in measuring parts using precision instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM)
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to promote continuous improvement in production workflows
- Excellent math skills for calculating dimensions, feeds, speeds, and tolerances required for precision machining
- Ability to Lift, push or pull up to 50lbs
- Repetitive motion of the limbs
- Be able to bend, twist, squat, and reach
- Able to be comfortable in an excessive noise environment
- Stand and walk for long periods of time
