Reports to: Head of Sales - UK & Ireland

Role Overview: The primary focus of the role is on, Asset Owners, Design Engineers, and Contractors. The development of business and market development plans are a central & key element of the role. This is a national role covering England, Scotland, Wales as well as occasional projects within Ireland. The successful candidate can be based in any part of mainland Great Britain. The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

What our new 'Business Development Manager - Rail' will be doing:
  • Lead the expansion of Cubis' presence within the UK Rail sector by proactively identifying growth opportunities, strengthening market visibility, and driving initiatives that support the achievement of sector budgets and long ‑ term strategic objectives.
  • Establish, nurture, and manage strong relationships with asset owners, design consultants, and key industry influencers.
  • Promote early engagement in project lifecycles to ensure Cubis solutions are consistently specified on major infrastructure and renewal programmes.
  • Take full ownership of yearly financial targets for the Rail sector, implementing actions to deliver sustained revenue growth, optimise margins, and ensure performance aligns with business forecasts.
  • Identifying key trends, opportunities, and risks for the business and communicate to line manager to resolve.
  • Monitor sector developments, regulatory changes, and customer behaviours. Analyse the potential impact on Cubis' Rail strategy and communicate insights and risks to the line manager with clear recommendations for resolution.
  • Proactively research, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities. Maintain oversight of key accounts and major rail projects, engaging with decision ‑ makers to position Cubis as a preferred supplier.
  • Collaborate with customers, industry partners, and Cubis' Product Development and Technical teams to identify unmet needs and contribute to the creation of innovative new products and solutions tailored to rail industry requirements.
  • Develop a reputation for reliability and sector expertise to secure sustained commitment from clients. Position Cubis as a strategic partner for future projects through consistent delivery of value and insight.
  • Act as the conduit between the Rail sector and internal stakeholders, delivering clear, actionable market intelligence to Marketing and Product Development teams to support product strategy and campaigns.
  • Lead and coordinate all business development efforts within the Rail sector, ensuring a structured, strategic approach to customer engagement, opportunity management, and project conversion.
  • Provision of training on products and solutions as required to contractors, consultants, and national rail employees.
  • Create and implement comprehensive business and commercial plans that align with the wider company strategy, ensuring the Rail sector's commercial approach is forward ‑ thinking, competitive, and aligned with market needs.

  • Liaising with other departments, as required, across the organisation to achieve effective operations of the sector.
  • Develop a practical understanding of Cubis' manufacturing processes and capabilities to better align customer needs with production.

The experience our new 'Business Development Manager - Rail' will have includes:
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years' experience working within the UK rail industry or related field.
  • Civil Engineering degree, BEng (Hons), Meng (Hons), or related Engineering industry experience is desirable.
  • Must be mobile and have flexibility to travel across mainland England.
  • Track record in dealing with asset owners, designers and contractors protecting the specification.
  • Experience in identifying and delivering new business opportunities.
  • Hands on-site experience.
  • Understanding of frameworks and contracts.
  • Account management experience.
  • Effective pipeline management.
  • Seasoned presentation & communication skills.
  • Budgeting and forecasting.
  • Proficient use of CRM systems.
