Reports to: Trading & Distribution Director
Role Overview: The Distribution Manager is responsible for driving revenue growth, market penetration, and strategic account development across national and independent merchant partners within the civils and infrastructure sector. This role combines high‑level sales strategy with hands‑on commercial engagement, ensuring Cubis maximises its presence, product adoption, and category performance within the merchant channels.
Acting as the primary commercial lead for GB merchant distribution, the Distribution Manager develops and executes national sales plans, identifies and wins new merchant opportunities, and expands business within existing accounts. Success in the role requires strong relationship‑building skills across all levels of merchant organisations from branch managers, regional directors, buying groups and the ability to deliver structured business reviews, joint sales activities, and training that enhances customer capability and product sell‑through. Based at our High Carr site the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
What our new 'Business Development Manager - National Distribution' will be doing:
Sales & Business Development
- Create and implement a national GB sales strategy aimed at increasing revenue across both independent and national merchant civils customers
- Identify, pursue, and secure new national and independent merchant accounts while strengthening relationships and driving growth within the existing customer base
- Increase product penetration within key civils merchant channels, with a strong focus on developing new independent business and managing strategic national accounts
Accounts & Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong, long ‑ term relationships with national and independent merchant groups, including branch managers, regional directors, and buying groups
- Carry out regular customer visits, performance reviews, and coordinated sales activities to strengthen category growth and deliver improved results
- Equip customers with product training, technical guidance, and tailored promotional plans to support increased sales volume and market uptake
Market & Category Intelligence
- Track market developments, competitor movements, pricing shifts, and changes in demand across the civil infrastructure sector
- Collaborate closely with product, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure sales strategies are fully aligned with market requirements
- Deliver structured reporting on sales pipeline, forecasting, and overall customer performance
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Work collaboratively with operations, finance, commercial excellence, and marketing teams to ensure a seamless and high ‑ quality customer experience
- Support the execution of product launches, category marketing initiatives, and merchandising activities across merchant branches
- Lead, coach, and develop customer ‑ facing teams to maintain consistent, high ‑ level performance
Associated Responsibilities:
- Develop strong, effective working relationships with merchant branch managers, regional directors, and buying teams
- Support merchant branches with stock profiling, gap analysis, and informed product ranging recommendations to optimise category performance
- Deliver in ‑ branch training sessions, toolbox talks, and trade ‑ focused engagement events
- Collaborate with the supply chain team to ensure product availability and resolve issues quickly and efficiently
- Maintain accurate CRM records and produce clear, structured monthly sales performance reports
The experience our new 'Business Development Manager - National Distribution' will have includes:
- Demonstrated sales success within the civils, construction materials, or merchant distribution sectors
- Strong knowledge of national, regional, and independent merchant networks
- Proven experience managing key accounts and consistently achieving sales targets
- Ability to analyse sales data and translate insights into actionable commercial decisions
- Must be flexible for regular travel to teams based in the UK and Ireland as well as covering the national region of Great Britain
- Background in drainage, groundworks, ducting, or geotechnical product ranges is advantageous
- Engineering experience or technical background is advantageous
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation capability
- Strategic planning and prioritisation skills
- Effective relationship building and communication
- Results-driven with strong organisational discipline
- Cross-functional collaboration and adaptability
