Interim Global Accountant (Fix term contract to end January 2027)

Location: Bristol (hybrid)

The Global Accounting (GA) Team comprises of circa 40 colleagues, with 15 on Bristol, England, Centre of Excellence (CoE) team, supported by circa 25 colleagues in Hyderabad, India.

The Global Accounting coordinates and oversees the month end close activities for Record to Report (Accounting) and Hire to Acquire (Assets). This involves coordination and liaison with colleagues in our primary markets (US, UK, Canada and Australia) as well as our offshore operations in India.

We are responsible for the majority of the monthly journal postings, allowing FP&A and Group perform monthly reporting. We complete month-end activities for Cash Management, Fixed Assets, Intercompany sub-ledgers and prepare balance sheet reconciliations for Financial Control.

A role you will love

This role contributes to ensuring the month end close processes are run in an efficient and effective manner, that the group timetable is met and our outsourcer delivers against its SLA's and KPIs. The role is responsible for accounting processes; preparation of manual journals, review of manual journals and accounting processes prepared offshore, month end close reporting to group, cash management, fixed assets, intercompany, balance sheets, and responding to requests from group auditors.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

Month-End Close & Core Accounting

  • Prepare journals required for month-end financial close in line with the agreed timetable and group playbook requirements.
  • Perform key accounting processes including intercompany accounting, fixed assets, balance sheet reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
  • Conduct initial reviews of the Profit & Loss statement to validate accuracy and highlight any anomalies.

Quality Assurance & Offshore Team Oversight

  • Monitor and review the quality and timeliness of offshore transaction processing.
  • Provide feedback to senior management and lead additional training/support for offshore colleagues where required.
  • Review offshore Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure they are accurate, up to date, and aligned with global processes.

Financial Controls & Governance

  • Maintain strong balance sheet integrity by ensuring all queried or judgemental items are escalated promptly to Finance Control.
  • Contribute to ongoing process improvement initiatives within the scope of work.
  • Respond to financial queries from key internal stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.

What will you bring to the role?

We're looking for someone who brings:

  • 3-5 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably within a large, global business.
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) - essential.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline - preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office / Excel and experience with financial systems.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, including maintaining and reviewing Excel-based reports, producing journal calculations, reviewing reconciliations, and analysing financial information.
  • High attention to detail, strong analytical capability, and effective organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently and accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage clearly and professionally with stakeholders at all levels.
