Job Summary
The Senior Expert, Enterprise Architect is responsible for leading the development, communication, and maintenance of the organization's technology strategy and architecture, ensuring alignment with business objectives. The role is accountable for setting architectural standards, guiding the creation of scalable and innovative solutions, collaborating across teams to address gaps and handling risks, as well as providing oversight to ensure that technology investments and implementations support the enterprise's long-term vision. Moreover, the role advises new technologies and drives continuous improvement in architectural practices across all domains.
Main Responsibilities
• Develop and lead technology strategy aligned with business goals
• Support executive decision-making through strategic input, making recommendations that influence the Information and Technology (I&T) strategy, integrated roadmap and investments
• Advise, validate and maintain the overall I&T architecture vision, roadmaps and landscape, guiding architecture decisions across I&T
• Influence CN's technology direction by engaging with internal stakeholders, industry professionals, and vendors
• Create and update reference architectures, standards, guidelines, capabilities, and models
• Identify and bridge gaps between business needs and enterprise architecture
• Implement effective architecture processes for large-scale systems
• Monitor disruptive trends and advise on technology, product and capability selections
• Oversee solution development ensuring its alignment with enterprise architecture

• Document technology portfolio and recommend improvements
• Oversee technology lifecycle, health, risk, and renewal planning
• Foster architectural oversight using principles, policies and guardrails
• Lead the organization to shape, plan and review solutions
• Handle architectural risks and guide innovation implementation
• Collaborate with senior leadership teams to identify and highlight innovation
• Support initiative prioritization and portfolio roadmap development
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.
Requirements
Experience
Information and Technology
• Minimum 15 years of experience in I&T or in a technology roles with a minimum of 5 years in similar role
• Experience with application lifecycle management
• Experience with platform-based architecture
• Experience with business and technology architecture modelling
• Experience with I&T transformational initiatives
• Experience in program and project scoping and planning
• Experience handling contractual agreements and procurement
• Experience in product and service management
• Experience in the transportation or rail industry
Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certifications
Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge
• Proficient in Confluence, including tagging, diagrams, and content management, Visio for diagram creation and Sparx or similar tools for handling Architecture Landscape
• Broad understanding of application, cloud, data, network, security, and operational technology architecture domains, with extensive knowledge of at least one domain
• Knowledge of cloud-based delivery models
• Proficient in architecture frameworks, methodology, tools, strategy design, and systems thinking
• Familiar with Agile methodologies, Lean Portfolio Management, and technology governance
