Mechanical Representative, RTC
Hiring Salary Range : $ 88,000.00 - 115,000.00
This range represents the hiring range. Salaries are determined individually depending on skills and experience. You will also be eligible to an annual bonus, employee share investment program (ESIP), Pension, Benefits, Railroad Retirement Benefits (RRB) and other perks.

Job Summary
The Mechanical Representative, Rail Traffic Control monitors CN's wayside detector network, making proactive decisions in real time. The position is the mechanical liaison between Network Operations, Transportation management, and the Signals and Communication (S&C) team. The role identifies defects, trends, and potential safety critical impacts to the network. Furthermore, the incumbent makes determinations to have identified faulty equipment set out for repair or to continue to destination.
Main Responsibilities
• Utilize existing wayside detection technology
• Identify defective railcar components
• Validate trending data to support suspected mechanical faults
• Identify erroneous data sets produced by detectors
• Make key decisions to ensure the proper handling of on-line equipment
• Report defects to Mechanical and Transportation field personnel
• Decide when equipment is required to be removed from a train consist
• Provide supporting data to field personnel supporting investigations
• Report and document changes in equipment status
• Utilize Systems, applications, and Products (SAP), Service Reliability Systems (SRS), and Microsoft Office programs
• Create and distribute standard reports and updates focused on mechanical performance
Working Conditions
The role has irregular hours (including nights, weekends, holidays). The role requires minimal travel (10%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.) and must be available to travel to locations needing assistance. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.
Requirements
Experience
Railway Operations
• Minimum 2 years of railway operations experience or working with heavy rail equipment
o Call center experience
Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
Education/Certification/Designation
• High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
• Valid Driver's Licence
• Qualified Mechanical Inspector
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering
• Diploma in Mechanical or Electronics Technician
*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

• Familiar with CN's Network Operations
• Knowledge of Transport Canada and Federal Railroad Association (FRA) equipment regulations
• Mechanical system knowledge related to railcar repair and inspection
This position is posted as a grade 9.
