Intern, Capital Planning & Management
This is a full-time summer internship that will take place from May 11, 2026 to August 28, 2026.
Job Summary
The intern will support key functions within Capital Planning & Management, with a focus on capital planning, financial analysis, data integrity, reporting, process improvement and system administration. The internship aims to provide the student with hands-on experience in capital planning and financial management within a large, complex organization. The intern will gain exposure to multi-year capital strategy, financial modeling, and corporate governance processes.
Through this experience, the intern will develop practical experience with enterprise systems, financial analysis, and capital governance-preparing them for future roles in corporate finance.

Major Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the tracking and reconciliation of capital forecasts, helping with timely and accurate updates to project scorecards
  • Contributing to the development and ongoing refinement of capital reporting views and dashboards for internal stakeholders
  • Assisting in the redesign of business case templates and documentation standards, improving the clarity and consistency of capital project evaluations (alignment with capital evaluation criteria)
  • Performing Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) calculations of growth projects to support project performance tracking and capital prioritization
  • Assisting with governance and audit documentation related to capital projects
  • Provides support for various ad hoc tasks related to capital management (e.g. network authorization, equipment pre-registration, etc.)
  • Supporting the creation and implementation of a new upload and validation process for the capital plan in CN's enterprise project portfolio management system (EPPM), ensuring data integrity
  • Participating in new release functionality review in the EPPM testing environment, ensuring proper operation prior to deployment in Production

Education

  • Working towards or having completed a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting or equivalent

*Any experience/education/skills/knowledge for these above would be considered an asset
