Job Summary

The Financial Analyst I&T Finance is responsible for providing financial support and analysis to Financial Partners working in various functions across CN, including in Transportation, Mechanical, Engineering, and Corporate. The incumbent supports Financial Partners in the day-to-day responsibilities of planning, implementing, monitoring, managing, and controlling all financial activities related to Technology. The position is a primary point of contact for I&T Finance, as such the incumbent works closely with I&T, Supply Management, Accounting, and Financial Planning.

Main Responsibilities

Analysis and Support

• Process transactions, journal entries, accruals and Purchase Orders (PO)'s Goods Receipts and Requisitions
• Assist Financial Partners in managing financial impact of projects including preparing business cases, monitoring project scopes, timelines, and benefits
• Assist Financial Partners in preparing the annual budget, monthly actuals, Year-End Outlooks (YEO), financial reporting, and analysis
• Maintain system data to ensure integrity of portfolio's financial information
• Perform data gathering and analysis on any queries related to financial matters, including accounting treatment, policies, budgets, and financial performance

Financial Control

• Collaborate with Accounting, Financial Planning, and Supply Management for all queries related to assigned portfolio under the guidance of Financial Partners
• Monitor and control actual financial results and portfolio activities to identify any corrective measures required to achieve financial targets
• Ensure compliance to policies, regulations and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) by applying effective processes and controls

Process Improvement and Special Projects

• Identify process improvements and automation opportunities, and contribute to implementation
• Assist with additional analysis and support of special projects

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress.

Requirements

Experience

Financial Analysis
• Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, finance, or equivalent
o Experience in I&T industry or equivalent
o Experience in data analytics and reporting

Education/Certification/Designation

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

• Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)

Technical Skills/Knowledge

• Strong financial management and accounting skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of Systems, Applications and Procedures (SAP) Finance, Controlling, and Business Warehouse
• Knowledge of railroad operations and equipment
