Job Summary

The incumbent is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely processing of customs and electronic business transactions to protect train movement, customer service, and company revenue. The role ensures shipments are properly cleared at border locations, supports the transmission and correction of EDI transactions, and helps maintain the integrity of shipment information. The incumbent works closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve transaction issues, meet regulatory obligations, and support safe and efficient rail operations.

Major Responsibilities

  • Process customs-related activities accurately and on time for border and destination movements
  • Monitor shipments to help ensure traffic is cleared prior to arrival at the border or destination
  • Transmit, review, and correct customs and EDI transactions using applicable systems and procedures
  • Interpret and apply customs regulations, dimensional load requirements, tariffs, contracts, and shipment diversion procedures
  • Research and resolve transaction or field reporting issues by coordinating with internal teams and external partners
  • Prepare and maintain daily and weekly customs and operational reports
  • Protect confidential information and follow established confidentiality guidelines
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Working Conditions

  • The role is performed primarily in an office environment using computer systems and standard office equipment
  • The incumbent must be able to work under stringent deadlines to support on-time train movement, terminal operations, and customer service requirements
  • The position requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with limited direct supervision
  • The role involves handling sensitive and confidential operational information


Requirements

  • Experience in customs operations, electronic business transactions, customer support, way billing , or a related operational environment
  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent
  • Post-secondary education in business, logistics , transportation, or a related field
  • Proficiency with computer applications, including Outlook email and operational systems
  • Ability to type accurately and use common office equipment
  • Knowledge of customs regulations and customs applications in Canada and the United States
  • Knowledge of EDI transactions, way billing , field reporting, and shipment movement information
  • Knowledge of dimensional load regulations, holds and overload procedures, diversion procedures, tariffs, and contracts
  • Certification in Transportation of Dangerous Goods regulations, Level 2 (TO 4202)
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Customer-oriented with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Ability to work independently and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment

Training

The incumbent receives training on applicable customs processes, EDI transactions, shipment information requirements, regulatory obligations, and internal systems and procedures. Training may include role-specific instruction on customs applications, operational reporting, and the handling of dangerous goods requirements, as applicable.

This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement
