The mission of the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) is to safeguard City funds, serve as the disbursement agent for all City-related payments, and invest those funds that are in excess of the amount needed to meet daily cash requirements in accordance with the City’s investment policy. The CTO works to improve and maintain the City’s credit ratings and manages new and outstanding debt. The City Treasurer’s Office manages a $9 billion outstanding debt portfolio and more than $6 billion in cash and investments. The Treasurer’s Office has a total of 23 full-time positions

Job Description
Position Summary
- The Chief of Staff serves as a strategic advisor to the City Treasurer, providing high level administrative, managerial, and analytical support to the City Treasurer’s Office.
- The position assists with managing both a broad range of daily workflow as well as high priority projects related to debt management, accounting, treasury management, or related policy matters.
- This role will work with the Treasurer and Deputy Treasurers to set strategic priorities and steward projects from development to implementation and completion
- Responsibilities are broad in scope and require a high degree of administrative discretion, independent judgment, and the ability to build and manage relationships to advance CTO’s goals and overall City priorities.
- Act as a key thought partner to the City Treasurer, brainstorming and identifying solutions to operational, financial, and strategic challenges.
- Manage and/or represent CTO on large, often cross-functional projects or initiatives, including maintaining project calendars and tracking deliverables.
- Work closely with the City Treasurer and Deputy Treasurers to manage and prioritize projects, provide updates on progress or deliverables, and address any challenges or roadblocks.
- Assist in the development and management of the CTO’s annual budget.
- Review monthly bank account reconciliations for accuracy and timeliness.
- Participate on the City’s Investment Committee to monitor investment performance against identified safety, liquidity, and return metrics.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external business partners.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff members to support learning and foster a culture of professional development.
- Review and edit department communications, policy documents, and annual publications issued by the CTO.
- Assist with the preparation for high-level internal or external meetings, briefings, and presentations.
- Communicate clearly and authoritatively, orally and in writing, while exercising discretion, and independent judgment.
- Maintain an overall perspective and thinks analytically.
- Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required with 5+ years of experience in government, budget, financial services, consulting, or related fields.
- Master’s degree in Economics, Government Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Public Policy, or related field preferred and may be substituted for work experience.
- Experience working with government officials and staff is preferred but not required

Salary Range: $120,000
