Description
Diagnose conditions by reviewing medical histories, performing physical examinations, and ordering diagnostic tests like X-rays, MRIs, and lab tests.
Develop treatment plans that may include prescribing medications, physical therapy, or special shoe inserts (orthotics).
Perform procedures such as minor in-office treatments for ailments like ingrown toenails and warts.
Conduct surgery for more complex issues, including removing bone spurs, repairing fractures, and correcting deformities like bunions and hammertoes.
Manage chronic conditions and their associated foot problems, particularly those related to diabetes, arthritis, and obesity.
Educate patients on proper foot care, preventative measures, and wellness to improve mobility and quality of life.
Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, physical therapists, and dietitians, as part of a multidisciplinary care team.

Qualifications and Skills
Earn a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited college of podiatric medicine (a 4-year program after undergraduate studies).
