What You'll Do: 

  • Serve to support your practice team, setting the bar for providing high-level, competent veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to work collaboratively with your peers and deliver the pet parent WOW experience.  
  • Responsible for implementing the outlined policies and procedures, utilizing integrated technology, and delivering consistent and appropriate medical care within the given skill set. 
  • Draw blood from common venipuncture sites 
  • Assist in restraint for IV catheter placement 
  • Administration of IV, IM, and SQ medications 
  • Operation of laboratory equipment 
  • Prepare a cytology slide using a cotton swab and microscope slide (correct sample collection and smear technique) 
  • Assist with positioning patients and taking diagnostic radiographs with proper collimation and understand radiation safety 
  • Able to accurately balance a centrifuge for diagnostic sample prep 
  • Use a refractometer to read and interpret urine specific gravity (USG) 
  • Prepare a fecal float (correct loop, solution, slide setup)

  • Identify clinical signs of parvovirus in young dogs 
  • Recognize signs of vaccine reaction 
  • Be proficient using the PIMS and aid others 
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standards of Care (SOCs) 
  • Act responsibly given the pharmacy holdings of the practice and maintain controlled substance logs. 
  • Assist practice manager with communicating on inventory needs. 
  • Clean workspaces after every patient or patient lab sample interaction. 
  • Participation in self-development courses and Chewy Vet Care required compliance training.  
  • Perform related duties and assignments as directed by management.  

 

What you’ll need: 

  • Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist for Veterinary Assistant I and II.  
  • 2+ years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice. 
  • Passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus. 
  • Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion. 
  • Excellent verbal / written communication, observational, and analytical skills. 
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • May be required to work weekends, position may require some travel. 

 

 

Physical job requirements: 

  • Standing or walking up to 80% per shift.  
  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.  
  • Frequently lift up to 70 pounds using an optional team lift.  
  • Rarely lift greater than 70+ pounds using a team lift. 
  • Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.

The specific hourly range offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) and are eligible for additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Team members will receive six paid holidays per year. Team members may be eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with applicable state and local regulations.

$20.50$27 USD
