Senior Technical SEO Manager
Our Opportunity:
Chewy is looking for an experienced Senior Technical SEO Manager to join our pack on the SEO team in our Bellevue, WA, or Boston, MA office. We pride ourselves on our Technical SEO expertise at Chewy and consider it a strength, but we’ve reached the point where this function needs a dedicated owner. In this high impact role, you’ll be responsible for ensuring Chewy is near perfect from a Technical SEO perspective and you’ll have the resources you need to make that a reality.
You’ll be set up for success from day one with access to top-tier SEO tools (including off the shelf tools and tools we’ve built in-house), dedicated Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists, and a broader organization that’s committed to prioritizing SEO at the highest levels. The ideal candidate is extremely passionate about SEO, possesses a healthy amount of curiosity, has a high fluency with data, is comfortable setting aggressive goals, and can operate autonomously to achieve those goals.
What You’ll Do:
- Create a strategy for Technical SEO for Chewy in multiple countries and languages. Set goals, develop a Technical SEO roadmap, and execute through dedicated engineering resources and partner teams.
- Build and execute an SEO A/B testing roadmap to continuously improve SEO performance and our understanding of levers we can pull to improve SEO performance.
- Advise product and engineering teams to help build Technical SEO requirements into every new feature we build at Chewy.
- Develop our playbook for Technical SEO, evangelize the playbook across product and engineering teams at Chewy, and guide Engineering teams to build automated testing for core SEO functionality.
- Conduct log file analysis to understand how search engines crawl Chewy; partner with Security, Cloud Infrastructure, and Engineering teams to improve crawlability and resolve issues.
- Develop and implement a scalable internal linking strategy in partnership with SEO’s product and Engineering teams.
- Develop a robust system for monitoring changes to SEO functionality and alerting relevant teams to protect SEO traffic.
- Execute Technical SEO Audits and continuously monitor Core Web Vitals and overall site health.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Finance, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of experience in Technical SEO preferred; 5+ years of experience in Technical SEO with other experience in Engineering, Product, Machine Learning and/or Information Retrieval is also acceptable. Preferred experience working on a global enterprise eCommerce website(s).
- Expertise utilizing Botify, Screaming Frog, and Google Search Console.
- Extensive knowledge and expertise in every facet of Technical SEO: log file analysis, crawling/rendering/indexing, performance optimization, XML Sitemaps, Structured Data Markup implementation, etc.
- Deep understanding of Google’s guidelines and spam policies. The ideal candidate can describe these without looking them up and they’re typically the first person to inform their colleagues of changes to Google’s guidelines.
- Understanding of HTML, XML, JSON-LD, JS, Lazy-Load and Single Page Application environments.
- Preferred experience with International SEO in multiple countries and languages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams. You’re able to discuss and write about SEO in a simple way that anyone can understand.
- Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated experience turning data into actionable insights.
- Position may require travel.
