This is a unique opportunity to work on mission critical trading platforms that directly power the success of independent financial advisors and their clients at Charles Schwab, a firm known for combining stability with innovation. As a Staff Engineer on the Advisor Services Technology Web Trading team, you'll tackle complex, high impact problems at scale while collaborating with talented engineers in a highly agile, team oriented environment. You'll have the chance to influence architecture, performance, and product direction while working with modern full stack technologies in both cloud and distributed systems. What you have
- Design and develop scalable, high performance web trading applications by building and maintaining reliable front end and back-end solutions that meet business, security, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate within agile scrum teams, working closely with engineers, product partners, and stakeholders to design, implement, test, and support new features and enhancements.
- Drive application quality and reliability by proactively identifying performance bottlenecks, defects, and technical debt, and leading efforts in refactoring, testing, automation, and performance tuning.
- Champion engineering best practices and standards, ensuring adherence to coding, security, resiliency, compliance, and documentation standards while continuously improving system functionality, usability, and scalability.

Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of full stack application development experience
- Bachelor's degree from 4-year accredited degree granting college or university is preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience developing and implementing applications, particularly web-enabled applications using:
- Front End Technologies/Concepts: Angular and/or AngularJS, HTML5, CSS/SCSS, ASP.NET web forms, MVC, JSON/XML, Sync/Async services
- Back End Technologies/Concepts: C#, ASP.NET, .NET Framework, .NET Core, .NET Web API, SOAP and RESTful API design
- Database Technologies/Concepts: Relational (SQL/Oracle) and Document Based (No-SQL/MongoDB) Architectures
- Environment: Distributed Monolithic and Cloud Based Microservices (Private Cloud/Pivotal Cloud Foundry is strongly differentiating)
- Initial understanding in web application environments and development tools, event-driven application development, session state management, web configuration and deployment strategies, security, and performance tuning, and debugging methodologies.
- Comfortable with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) concepts, unit testing principles and implementations, API test automation techniques as well as automated deployment pipeline tools
- Experience with Atlassian tool suite and VCS is strongly preferred: JIRA, Confluence, GitHub
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective time management. Must be able to prioritize and multi-task effectively.
- Trading domain knowledge is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable front end and back-end code.
- Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of the applications.
- Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.
- Collaborate with the team to design, develop, unit test, and support new features.
- Proactively identify product/system enhancements which may improve tool appeal, process flow, and overall functionality and performance.
- Lead development of maintenance and enhancement work items, including performance tuning, testing, refactoring, usability, and automation.
- Champion/ensure adherence to coding, compliance, & security standards (including documenting functionality/recovery solutions).
