Thematic Investing develops and operates one of Schwab's most innovative products with the primary goal of delighting our clients while empowering them to meet their financial objectives. Thematic Investing provides our customers the ability to invest in Themes curated by Schwab's research team.

Thematic Core Services team seeking an experienced and highly skilled mid-level Java Developer to join our dynamic development team. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, developing, and maintaining complex software applications using Java technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy robust Java-based applications and services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, business analysts, and QA engineers, to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers, performing code reviews and sharing best practices.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize code for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Stay up to date with emerging Java technologies and frameworks, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.
  • Contribute to the documentation of software architecture, design decisions, and processes.
  • Ensure adherence to software development standards and security best practices.
  • Work with the Architect in designing services and solutions based on business requirements.

What you have

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of professional experience in Java software development.
• Strong proficiency in Java SE/EE, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and RESTful web services.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
• Extensive hands-on experience designing and building APIs
• Extensive hands-on experience with micro-services architecture
• Familiarity with front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS is a plus.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented design principles and design patterns.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Preferred Skills
• Experience with trading and/or high-volume, high-availability systems.

• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
