As a Lead Software Development Engineer within Advisor Services Technology, you will help build, modernize, and support critical wealth management platform capabilities that enable rebalancing, trading workflows, and data processing.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, making thoughtful decisions in production-critical environments, and delivering scalable solutions that improve platform stability, performance, and resiliency.

You will collaborate across engineering, product, and business teams to translate workflow needs into effective technical solutions while contributing to modernization efforts across APIs, batch workflows, data pipelines, microservices, and cloud-ready architectures. Your work will directly support reliable platform outcomes, strengthen engineering practices, and help Schwab continue delivering innovative solutions for advisors and the clients they serve.

What you have

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of experience with Java and software development in production-critical systems
  • Experience building REST APIs, microservices, and distributed systems
  • Experience with SQL and relational database technologies such as Oracle or PostgreSQL
  • Experience with data processing, batch workflows, and data pipelines
  • Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD workflows, and Git-based development
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues across APIs, databases, and batch systems
  • Ability to operate independently, make sound technical decisions, and deliver outcomes in ambiguous or fast-paced environments

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in financial technology, wealth management, advisor services, rebalancing, trading, or portfolio systems
  • Experience with frontend development using Angular or other modern frontend frameworks
  • Experience contributing to Micro Frontend architecture, scalability, reliability, or performance improvements
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, containers, and Kubernetes
  • Experience improving system reliability through root cause analysis, long-term fixes, defensive coding practices, and resilient design patterns
  • Ability to collaborate with business stakeholders and product teams to translate workflow needs into scalable technical solutions
  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments to deliver iterative, high-quality outcomes
  • Ability to mentor engineers, elevate engineering standards, and contribute to a collaborative, adaptable team environment
  • Exposure to artificial intelligence tools, frameworks, or applied engineering use cases that improve efficiency, automation, or decision-making
