We believe in the importance of in-office collaboration and fully intend for the selected candidate for this role to work on site in the specified location(s). This role is expected to be in the office 4 days a week.

The Schwab Technology Services (STS) Portfolio & Project Management (PPM) organization partners with Business and Technology Leaders to prioritize and execute technology work for strategic business sponsored initiatives, enhancements, as well as standard technology operations, production support, and technology enablement to ensure STS capacity is focused on the most important work for the company.

What you'll do:

Project Managers are responsible for leading enterprise wide, cross-functional strategic initiatives. They lead a variety of different types of projects including launching new products and services, small to medium-scale application development, systems integration, process reengineering, operational efficiency improvements, and infrastructure upgrades and deployments.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for planning, orchestrating, and delivering a given strategic initiative including business, operational, and information technology deliverables
  • Ensures end results are of the highest caliber with a clearly articulated scope and quantifiable business benefit
  • Manages small to medium-scale projects sometimes involving multiple internal and external constituents and partners
  • Directly manages all aspects of the project life cycle and oversees all phases of a project, escalating issues to portfolio manager as appropriate
  • Rigorously manages scope to ensure commitments are achieved within agreed-upon time, cost, and quality parameters
  • Validates financial forecasts, cost assumptions, and provides ongoing reconciliation of resources and other related project expenditures
  • Works with resource managers to ensure that resource capacity planning is accurately forecast, and provides ongoing reconciliation of actual time spent against forecasts
  • Defines and tracks project milestones while developing, maintaining, and reporting on an overall integrated delivery plan
  • Handles risks and issues management for the project-level risks and interdependencies
  • Partners with Product Owners and Scrum Masters to track Agile development milestones and support Agile practices as needed
  • Partners with RTEs and Portfolio Managers to introduce work into ART/Team backlogs and monitor through delivery
  • Manages team relationships to ensure effective delivery
  • Facilitates problem-solving and resolves stakeholder conflict

What you have

To ensure that we fulfill our promise of "challenging the status quo," this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have:

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-7 years of project management experience, managing small to medium projects, with emphasis on product development, systems, and technology environments
  • 2-7 years of experience with project management tools and artifacts, including MS Project, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, project budgets, change requests, status reports, etc.
  • Direct experience mobilizing and leading teams; setting direction and approach; facilitating conflict resolution; identifying/understanding drivers, root cause; seeking guidance or escalating when needed
  • Demonstrated, applied experience establishing and delivering projects
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background/experience in financial services industry
  • Experience with and understanding of various software development methodologies, including Agile/Scrum and Scaled Agile (SAFe, etc.)
  • PMP or PMI-ACP certification
