Organization/Role Description:

The Schwab Enterprise Architecture team is seeking an accomplished and visionary Distinguished Data Architect to shape and drive the firm's enterprise-wide data architecture strategy. This role will play a pivotal part in influencing the full software development lifecyle across Schwab Technology Serivices (STS) and works closely with architects and engineers to modernize and govern the firm's data ecosystem.

As part of Schwab's Distinguished Engineer community, you will be part of an elite group representing the pinnacle of technical talent and industry best practices. This community of technology leaders is instrumental in driving the firm's technology strategy, fostering innovation, and ensuring excellence in our data architecture practices.

Reporting to the Office of the CTO, this role is responsible for establishing data strategy, standards, practices, and governance for the entire firm. You will empower thousands of technologists to better serve millions of Schwab clients and support the stewardship of trillions of dollars in client assets.

What you have

Required Qualifications:

  • Capturing, designing, communicating, and maintaining modern enterprise data architecture patterns, designs, practices, and roadmaps-at the contextual, conceptual, and logical levels.
  • Enabling data deployment and implementation across public, private, and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Collaborating with business and IT stakeholders to define iterative transitional and target state data architecture practices.
  • Developing and maintaining strong awareness and acumen of Schwab's business domains, regulatory considerations, and financial industry standards.
  • Planning and leading data architecture initiatives across IT and business organizations and teams.
  • Defining and establishing enterprise technical strategy, standards, and guidelines within the data architecture domain.
  • Participating in architecture review boards and representing the data architecture domain for critical firmwide initiatives.
  • Mentoring and leading data architects, engineers, and operations resources across the firm as they adopt modern practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, or data engineering, with increasing scope and complexity in highly regulated industries (e.g., finance, insurance, healthcare, government).
  • 5+ years of experience leading data modernization efforts.
  • 5+ years of software development experience.
  • Practical experience with industry-standard data development and data management practices.
  • Enterprise-wide awareness of business domains in relation to core business processes, capabilities, and enabling technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with and active engagement in data architecture, data integration, DevOps, and business capability modeling.
  • The ability to apply architectural principles and govern based on established standards.
  • Experience in successfully planning and leading architectural initiatives across IT and business organizations and teams.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including written, verbal, and visualization capabilities, to communicate and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to influence and inspire others, leading decisions that provide clear positive results for the company.
  • Proven history of delivery in an Agile environment.
  • Substantial senior-level executive presence.
  • Strong design analysis and problem-solving abilities, working in close collaboration with subject matter
