Schwab Crime Data Engineering department, within Financial Risk Management (Risk Analytics), is responsible for managing extraction, transformation, and loading of Schwab and external vendor data for analytics and reporting.

The Manager, Data Engineer is primarily responsible for data engineering tasks using object-oriented programming languages including C#, .NET, Python with tasks including acquiring, transforming/curating and preserving Schwab data assets on multiple RDBMS databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, DB2 and Google Cloud. Partners relying on your data create fraud prevention strategies through a range of simple-to-advanced analytics. Among other Risk Management topics, Client Experience and Crime Prevention are central themes, particularly as they relate to client logins and money movement channels such as Wire, ACH, Card, Check, Bill Pay, Account Open, etc.

The responsibilities of this position are (but not limited to):

  • A hands-on role in the effective development and management of Charles Schwab's fraud risk, case management, money movement, money link setup etc.
  • Communicate and partner with business partners to identify and improve operational processes from a fraud perspective.
  • Daily monitoring and analysis of relevant data to identify and advance emerging fraud trends.
  • Development and management of fraud prevention strategies using a wide array of data, algorithms, and predictive models.
  • Optimize the balance between fraud prevention, client experience and operational burden.
  • Support the development of long-term strategic risk management policies and approaches to reduce the risk of fraud loss while maintaining a best-in-class client experience.
  • Identify and champion process improvement opportunities in all aspects of the position's duties and responsibilities.

What you have

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of C#, .NET, programming experience with an emphasis on API development and back-end services.
  • Build .NET services with structured logging, health/readiness endpoints, and coordinated handoffs to improve production support
  • Extensive hands-on experience building high-performance, distributed .NET solutions leveraging API calls for event streaming data acquisition
  • 2+ years of Python programming experience.
  • 5+ years of SQL experience with the ability to develop, tune and debug complex SQL
  • 5+ years of experience developing relational, non-relational, and dimensional data models
  • 5+ years of experience working on agile teams delivering data pipelines, and data solutions
  • Experience writing automated unit, integration, and acceptance tests for data interfaces & data pipelines
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including teamwork, communication, and negotiation
  • Establish data quality checks and protocols to ensure data accuracy
  • Perform data analysis to derive meaningful insights that can be reported to stakeholders and Sr. Management.
  • Support business partners by translating data into significant and useful insights that help baseline initiatives, find opportunities, and solve problems.
  • Creating/updating ETL specifications and supporting documentation
  • Experience with Google Cloud Big Query
  • Work with business analysts to understand business requirements and use cases
  • Collaborate with product owners and key partners in Project Management, Business, QA and Technology Operations to ensure high quality delivery of software projects on time and budget

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Financial Services industry a plus

Skills

  • Demonstrate strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Experience in building automation pipelines with .NET, C#, Python, SQL.
  • Design, development and implementation of RESTful web services.
  • Experience migrating RDBMS data to Cloud systems, preferably Big Query.
  • Strong knowledge of software development methodologies, excellent communication, documentation, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to process large quantities of data, summarize key findings.
  • Present effectively to team members, senior leadership, and internal customers.
  • A basic understanding of fraud risk decision strategy and development.
  • Superb communication and relationship skills

EDUCATION

Required: B.S./B.A. in Data Management, Data Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field.

Preferred: MS in technical field
