Position Summary
The Simulation Actor Specialist, reporting to the Simulation Lab Supervisor, supports Standardized Patient Simulations primarily through acting, administrative tasks, and day-to-day operational activities. This position involves scheduling, planning, developing, programming, and executing simulation scenarios for programs within the School of Nursing and Patient Support. Responsibilities include managing technical infrastructure, troubleshooting equipment and applications, and operating high-fidelity healthcare mannequins as necessary.

Additionally, the role provides technical support to students, faculty, and other staff, assists in integrating actor scenarios into the educational curriculum, and ensures safety, confidentiality, and compliance with academic policies. The specialist is also responsible for database management related to performance metrics, participating in professional development, and staying informed about emerging technologies such as Extended Reality (XR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Primarily acts as a Standardized Patient Actor for scenario-based simulations.
  • Primary Program Lead for NPS Programs that run actor-only scenarios (Medical Assisting, Nursing Assistant, Basic Patient Care Skills, Patient Care Tech., and Nursing Level 1).
  • Works with the Simulation Lab Supervisor to manage the scheduling system for all standardized patient actor shifts, and provides timely communications to simulation actor pool regarding scheduling and shifts.
  • Collaborates with the Simulation Education Specialist and program Faculty to assist with the planning, preparation, and implementation of standardized patient scenarios.
  • Manages, configures, troubleshoots, and coordinates technical applications and AVS equipment.
  • Operates and troubleshoots high-fidelity mannequins as needed.
  • Provides comprehensive technical support for task trainers, simulators, and multimedia peripherals, ensuring seamless simulation experiences.
  • Handles and organizes medical supplies, including mock medications and healthcare devices.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and confidentiality regulations, including OSHA, HIPAA, and FERPA.
  • Safely transports simulation equipment and mannequins between facilities.
  • Reviews simulation actor agreements, ensuring adherence to institutional policies, and reporting any issues promptly to the Simulation Lab Supervisor.
  • Conducts simulation demonstrations and provides technical assistance to instructors and students.
  • Manages elements of theatrical production for realistic simulations, including costuming, set design, and props.
  • Engages in continuous professional development and training to stay current on emerging instructional technology and best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
    • AND
    • Two (2) years of relevant work and/or educational experience in any of the following, or a combination of the following; Direct Patient Care, Simulation-based training, Information Technology, Instructional Design, Education, Film, and/or Theater.
  • OR
  • Associate's Degree
