Position Summary
The Network Architect designs, maintains, and manages the IT network systems, including LAN, WAN, and Data Center networks. A Network Architect takes CNM's business strategy and defines an IT network systems architecture to support that strategy. The Network Architect assists the organization with interpreting, using, and applying the information contained within IT architecture deliverables. This information informs a range of business improvement activities, particularly those involved in the design, development, enhancement, implementation, and maintenance of network technology platforms. The Network Architect helps ensure the interoperability and sustainability of the organization's technology ecosystem from an infrastructure and network architecture perspective. The Network Architect ensures that all new platforms, systems, applications, and integrations fit within the organization's ecosystem's overall architecture. You will consider different perspectives, including but not limited to security, infrastructure, applications, and data systems.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, architects, and creates engineering specifications for the CNM enterprise (Main and all campuses) network, Internet/Telecomm, and unified communications (voice and collaboration) ecosystems and platforms. Create project bid specifications, obtain cost estimates, and develop project budgets and forecasts for the CNM enterprise (Main and all campuses).
  • Provide hands-on support and manage the team that monitors the network ecosystem (routers, switches, wireless access points, etc.).
  • Manage Network/Telecommunication Infrastructure engineers, administrators, technicians, and specialists. Oversee, lead, and coordinate the activities of the voice, network and telecommunications technical and/or support staff on a daily basis.
  • Recommend and participate in activities related to the development of the enterprise architecture.
  • Improve by using innovative new technologies and approaches to transform the existing core technology base and IT ecosystem.
  • Define high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the current and future state, aligning with the ITS budgeting or other capital planning processes.
  • Lead the analysis of the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement. Also, lead the analysis of the technology industry trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise and on the network technology architecture.
  • Help design the governance, assurance, and routine activities to ensure network technology architecture compliance.
  • Oversee, or consult on, technology implementation and modification activities (for example, projects), particularly for new or shared infrastructure solutions. Consult on application or infrastructure development projects to harmonize systems or infrastructure with the enterprise technology architecture. Identify when it is necessary to modify the enterprise technical architecture (ETA) to accommodate immediate or future project needs.
  • Participate and facilitate the research, evaluation, and selection of hardware and software technology and product standards and the design of standard configurations.
  • Document necessary enterprise technology architecture design and analysis work, possibly including project postmortem documentation and metric collection.
  • Review and assess technology projects and assets along with everyday processes and procedures and ensure that the technology components align with the ITS technology ecosystem.
  • Develop a plan with ITS leadership and peers to update processes, procure new resources and/or restructure platforms to align expectations with current IT strategy.
  • Coordinate with ITS directors and other technical staff to collaborate on the strategic development of internal technical work.
  • Searches for areas where cost reduction opportunities may be available, such as cases where workflow may be duplicated across departments, platforms, or colleges.
  • Contribute ideas and insight to help improve corporate information management resources to stay current with evolving business trends and new technologies.
  • Create architecture designs, context diagrams, and other artifacts of proposed and existing systems in the enterprise. These artifacts are created at conceptual and logical level with the aim to make the systems sustainable, scalable, and future-proof.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of related experience, and current CCNA
  • Or
  • Associates Degree and nine (9) years of related experience, and current CCNA
  • Or
  • Current CCNP and eleven (11) years of related experience
  • Position is currently not eligible for CNM's Remote Work agreement. This is an on campus position only.
