Position Summary
CNM's Associate Vice President of Finance & Operations will work with the Vice President of Finance and Operations (VPFO) to lead the Finance & Operations Division and support the College with long-term planning related to finances, operations, and strategic initiatives. Working with the VPFO, the position will support College leadership in strategic resource allocation and operating performance optimization in line with best practices and the overall goals of the College. The position will play a key role in leveraging the College's assets to further the mission, vision, and values. This position is involved in various planning initiatives, including those involving the college's accreditation, multi-year strategic plan, multi-year master plan, and the College's 5-year visioning process.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs, leads, and manages staff, which includes prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; ensuring employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

Areas of direct responsibility include, but not limited to:
  • Overseeing the Physical Plant Department (PPD), the Enterprise Project Management Office, Security, Risk & Safety, the Auxiliaries function, including Parking Services, Fleet Management, bookstore operations, vending relationships, enterprise-wide revenue diversification efforts, and other areas as assigned.


  • Uses data to support financial and operational decisions as well as works with schools, department and program leaders to develop cost models that support the College's strategic priorities.
  • Assists in the strategic development of complex financial planning, budgeting, and analysis.
  • Works with departments to enhance existing processes and implement best practices using a data-informed approach.
  • Collaboratively maintains and develops a robust financial reporting framework for the College and its operating units that meets the College's needs, including executive leadership and academic and administrative departmental leaders.
  • Supports the College's multi-year financial planning and forecasting efforts, participates in strategic objective efforts/teams, and recommends revenue and spending efforts that support stated goals.
  • Supports multiple departments, including Budget Office and PPD to ensure compliance with state requirements and deadlines.
  • Works closely with the comptroller and finance staff to understand the College's financial systems, GASB liabilities, and financial and tax obligations.
  • Works collaboratively with directors of Human Resources Department, Business Office, and Information Technology Services, and other College departments to further the College's goals.
  • Supports the development of multi-year capital budgets, financing plans, and reporting in collaboration with directors of PPD, Information Technology Services, and Enterprise Project Management Office.
  • Develops and presents reports at Governing Board and Committee meetings, and before other internal and external audiences.
  • Staffs the Governing Board's Capital Committee by setting and organizing agenda items and providing post-meeting summaries.
  • Serves as a member of the Executive Oversight Committee, Technology Advisory Committee, and the Masterplan Vetting Committee, and plays a key role in advising on project governance structures.
  • Provides direction on analyzing costs of college programs and functions.
  • Supports outreach efforts to state executive and legislative agencies on matters affecting state funding and policies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in related field

AND

  • Five to seven (5-7) years of progressive responsibilities in senior leadership, financial analysis, long-term planning, and/or operations management with large institutions including higher education institutions, governmental entities, non-profit organizations, or private sector.


  • This position requires candidates to submit a background and credit check.
