Job Purpose and Impact

The Cattle Buyer role is responsible for procuring cattle for our US Fed harvest facilities. A variety of purchasing options including: spot market negotiations, basis contracts, and other alliance type arrangements. Also continuing to maintain relationships with grid and formula yards in the area. In this role, you will coordinate and execute low to medium complex procurement requirements to provide input to the global category team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Execute medium complex requests for sourcing process.
  • Drive implementation of local sourcing decisions and support local implementation of regional or global sourcing decisions.
  • Provide local inputs to the global category team for category strategy development and execution.
  • Build and apply a comprehensive understanding of local, stakeholder and procurement landscape.
  • Follow established procedures to select suppliers for procurement of non-contracted materials, goods, services and supplies.
  • Administer transactions associated with obtaining goods and services.
  • Handle basic issues and problems under direct supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Driver's license in good standing
  • Ability and willingness to travel in company vehicle 20,000 to 40,000 miles per year, depending on the territory

Preferred Qualifications
  • Cattle buying experience, Livestock judging or Meat Judging is preferred
  • Preferred Animal or Meat Science background
  • CME Risk Management experience.
