Broadridge is hiring a Data Center Engineer to join our team in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Data Center Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day activities that support data center operations, support of IT systems, network services, business-critical process and procedures that support the delivery of customer products and services.

Key Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of an enterprise Data Center to include deploying, maintaining, and providing operational support for all products and services housed within the Data Center environment.
  • Build out our existing infrastructure and troubleshoot problems as they arise.
  • Rack and stack of data center equipment, including but not limited to servers, networking devices, monitoring systems and other equipment. Rack installation will include putting racks in place, cabling, power up and hand off systems and servers to responsible next level parties and stakeholders.
  • Install, remove, and troubleshoot hardware in data centers racks without disturbing other hardware and critical infrastructure on site.
  • Decommission life cycle of data center hardware while managing the Inventory process, order replacement parts and return failed parts as required.
  • Monitor and respond to systems to ensure integrity and continued operations triage, troubleshooting, and resolution of server systems including, software, OS issues working with other groups where needed including support of all aspects of server environments (including physical and virtual, on-prem and cloud based). This will be inclusive of Data Center Visual Walkthroughs and documenting alarms or systems running at diminished capacity.
  • Provide technical expertise regarding data center operations while maintaining detailed documentation of tickets including symptoms, causes, and provide root cause resolutions when required.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of the data center infrastructure and when necessary, gather requirements from business users and work with our Enterprise architects and team leads to make improvements to data center delivery and support mechanisms and strategies.
  • Work with other regional Data Center teams and asset management teams to ensure the DC tool(s) accurately reflects the installed data center equipment and will work with the any onsite facilities teams to verify the accuracy of the underlying power/cooling infrastructure.
  • The scope of Monitoring activities will include critical environmental areas such as fire suppression, power, cooling, and security functions based on available equipment and options.
  • Be responsive for administrative duties specific to the DC product/suite which may include license management, reporting tools, access management, supporting version upgrades which will require collaboration across internal application support teams and operations.
  • Assist on projects involving the physical installation of cabinets, cages, cables, shelving, cable management, Firewalls, routers CSU/DSU's, servers, PDU's, storage technologies, switches.
  • Terminate and troubleshoot twisted pair, coax, RJ45, fiber, and legacy connections housed within the data center.
  • Work with various internal/external groups (such as telecommunication service providers/carriers, provisioning, equipment vendors, the NOC, and internal departments) to install, troubleshoot, repair equipment, and facility equipment.
  • Participate and complete training that aligns with corporate objectives to bridge skill gaps and learn new relevant technologies.
  • Act within Service Level Agreements (SLA) on the tickets assigned to you in your space.
  • Shift hours may vary and will require some level of after hours and weekend related installation and support work.
  • Be onsite in the data center and be responsible for receiving and shipping data center equipment, planning rack layouts and infrastructure cabling.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized data center is a must.
Basic Skill Level Requirements

Education:
  • High School Diploma
  • Network and systems related designations/certifications are a plus
Experience:
  • 5+ years of Data Center experience
  • Knowledge of Dell PowerEdge Servers, HPE and HP Server Technologies, data center power types and standards
  • Knowledge of Standard Cisco (or comparable) Networking technologies and solutions
  • Understanding of Dell EMC Storage types, tiers, and delivery needs
  • Understanding of DCIM and DCIM methodologies
  • Experience with Windows, UNIX/Linux system administration and understanding of SAN/NAS storage, TCP/IP Networking
Skills:
  • A strongly motivated self-starter who conducts themselves professionally and works under minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work with multiple groups to gather business requirements for any and all data center efforts
  • Strong analytical, multitasking and prioritization skills
  • Proficiency in working in a fast-paced, complex, and dynamic business environment
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence individuals in all regions of the organization
  • Ability to be a strong team player with commitment to overall organization goals
  • Ability to apply best practices for organizing and discovering complex infrastructure environments and placing them with IT services.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
Tools:
  • Familiarity and understanding of platform specific technologies integrating with SNMP, IPMI, Nmap, and SSH including PowerShell, Windows Administration, Linux operating systems, AWS/Azure or other Enterprise Cloud environments that connect into a Data Center Environment
