Role Synopsis

The Finance Manager will be the Performance Lead on the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team and plays a critical role in driving financial clarity and guidance for key decision makers across bpx energy. This role is responsible for overseeing the full performance management cycle, generating executive-level insights, and driving continuous improvement in forecasting, reporting, and benchmarking processes. With a deep understanding of the U.S. onshore oil & gas market, the individual will serve as a key liaison between finance, operations, investor relations, and executive leadership—ensuring that performance metrics are not only tracked but translated into actionable intelligence.

This leader will standardize reporting frameworks, manage the corporate model, and deliver high-impact materials for senior stakeholders, including the Board of Directors. They will also support investor relations efforts and lead competitive benchmarking initiatives using tools like Enverus to enhance bpx’s commercial positioning. The ideal candidate brings analytical rigor, strategic foresight, and a passion for operational excellence in a dynamic energy environment. The role will report to the Head of FP&A and be a part of a very collaborative group, where people are willing to step out of their roles to help others.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee Performance Management Cycle: Standardize templates and set guidance for teams to report on a weekly to quarterly basis to management. Ensure materials drive clarity and relevant discussion.

  • Generate the bpx Performance Narrative: Provide insight on performance of KPIs versus plan and versus broader industry trends. Ability to track impacts from changes to plan and isolate underlying performance from exogenous factors. In depth understanding of the US onshore oil & gas market and basins in which we operate. Be a leader who can proactively flag the need for managerial interventions to keep business KPIs on track.

  • Performance Reporting: Oversee management of the in-year corporate model and provide variance commentary for actuals/forecasts vs budget in a clear and concise narrative.

  • Generate Executive Materials: Prepare and deliver high-quality financial white papers, presentations, performance updates and benchmarking data for senior executives, Board of Directors meetings and external audiences.

  • Benchmarking & Insights: Help improve understanding of bpx’s competitive positioning within the US Onshore oil & gas universe. Support benchmarking workflows to improve the team’s commercial acumen, drive improvements in organizational efficiency, lower operating costs and improve return on investment. Be comfortable pulling public peer financial and operating data. Become an expert user of Enverus and other business intelligence services.

  • Investor Relations liaison: Support incoming bp investor relations requests including quarterly reports, anticipated investor Q&A briefs and investor presentation slides.

  • A Culture of Excellence: Help evolve and improve forecasting, reporting, and investment evaluation frameworks and tools. Actively work on continuous improvement of current and new processes. Drive bpx standardization and performance improvement initiatives as needed.

  • Work should be accurate, timely and with an excellent attention to detail.

Essential Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in the oil & gas industry. Preference for past experience in investment banking, investment research (sell-side or buy-side) or investor relations. High performing corporate finance and petroleum engineering candidates will also be considered.

  • Ability to tell a story with data. Proven ability to communicate complex financial and industry concepts clearly and concisely to senior partners.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration from an accredited university.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong business acumen and data-driven decision-making capabilities.

  • Excellent collaboration and people skills. Ability to develop and use informal networks. Ability to effectively interface, influence and build alignment with individuals, multi-discipline teams and all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to quickly analyze large volumes of data, recognize trends, develop solutions to business issues and recommend preferred alternatives. Experience with data analytics and visualization tools is a plus.

  • Past experience working with public peer financial data for analysis or benchmarking purposes a plus.

  • Past managerial experience desirable.

How much do we pay (Base)? $180,000 - $210,000. Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
