Role Overview
The main focus of this position is supporting the company's compliance with US SALT regulations (such as sales & use taxes, hotel occupancy taxes and other similar local taxes), including supporting identifying tax risks of new and existing practices, through research, analysis and providing implementation support. You will also provide US SALT advice and guidance relating to various new business initiatives (Booking.com, Booking.com Transport or Fareharbor).
As a Senior Tax Consultant - US State and Local Taxes (SALT) you will work at the headquarters of Booking.com in Amsterdam (6,000 employees with over 100 different nationalities), where our entire tax department sits. You will report directly to one of the Senior Tax Managers or Tax Director. You will sit in the Trips BU team, which is a multi-tax disciplinary team dedicated to supporting the Trips organization (incl. among other car rental, rides, flights, insurance, attractions). Building collaboration with other US SALT experts in the group is important to ensure (cross brand) alignment. The tax department is part of Booking.com's international Finance team (approx. 1,000 professionals, mostly based in Amsterdam).
The role involves close interaction within our Accommodations Business Unit and TRIPS Business Unit, our entire tax team, our parent company (Booking Holdings Group based in Norwalk, Connecticut), our international offices, business managers, functional teams and other finance colleagues. Therefore, it is important that you have excellent management and communication skills in English.
Due to the rapid changes in the organization and US SALT developments, the tasks and duties of this role may evolve over time. You will be keen to develop and grow within the role and to take on additional challenges and responsibilities as they occur.

- Translate business activities into US SALT implications and translate US SALT developments into business implications
- Work on key US SALT and other tax challenges in different areas of the business
- Help coordinate & manage (a portfolio of) complex US SALT matters that may span across multiple departments, domains and/or geographies
- Proactively support (Senior) Tax Managers with their end to end responsibility from scoping the issue/challenge to the overall solution, including stakeholder management, driving issue resolution, initiating the needed organizational change and monitoring
- Liaise and collaborate with the other tax verticals/horizontals regarding global tax (incl US SALT) compliance across the business
- Support on complex topics, including the coordination of project portfolios
- Conduct technical analysis for tax challenges
- Help coordinate & manage the work of our tax advisors
Role Qualifications and Requirements
- University degree or equivalent experience in Tax Economics/Law or similar degree
- Between 4 to 7 years of US SALT experience within a big 4 and/or international environment.
- US SALT experience with taxation of digital economy (e.g. marketplace facilitator statutes, Hotel Occupancy and Sales Taxes, SaaS and similar topics) is a plus
- Familiar with digital economy/e-commerce challenges and taxes
- Strong research skills to analyze new tax legislation and implications and experience working with (extensive) data sets
- Experience in effective communication, multi-tasking, stakeholder management and strategic networking
- Experience with data analysis and technology (e.g. AI tools)
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in English
