Role Description:

The Senior Strategy & Program Manager, Finance New Business Models role is responsible for the governance and active program and / or portfolio management of highly complex program(s) linked to the company and department strategy and objectives.

This role will drive strategic and operational decisions across a variety of topics, and create overall strategic direction and alignment across the business. It plays a leading part in the creation and execution of the strategy, ensuring the right topics are being worked on across multiple Departments and stakeholders, and that results are achieved in line with the business strategy. This may include designing, driving and overseeing the day-to-day operations or leading the change for Booking.com's most complex transformations.

Within the Finance Strategy & Business Operations team, this role will specifically focus on running programs associated with New Business Models. The new business models will enable us to build stronger and deeper strategic, commercial and operational relationships with our customers, both the traveller and the hosts. These programs are high impact and will support the business to better navigate the fast-changing Financial regulatory environment.

The ideal candidate must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means not only being able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but also to roll up your sleeves, dig in, and help drive change.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties:

Strategy Development and Operationalization

  • Lead multiple critical projects / programs to solve complex open-ended strategic challenges.
  • Scope well-structured projects and workstreams across complicated topics and stakeholder environments.
  • Lead development of operational plans from strategic priorities.
  • Identify focus areas, including goals, how to get there, operating model and business cases for new investments (working with FP/A).
  • Develop recommendations, communicate, and align with compelling storyline to senior stakeholders (VPs/SVPs).
  • Pro-actively reshape the strategic agenda based on deep understanding of business & market knowledge.
  • Understand and assess implications of market, competitive, customer, and regulatory trends, and articulate risks/opportunities arising out of such trends.
  • Refine and maintain a clear strategic roadmap, linked to operational realities and long term goals.

End-to-End Program Management

  • Lead a highly complex program or a portfolio of highly complex strategic or critical programs (e.g., complex change / transformational initiatives).
  • Drive the program or portfolio of programs scoping and planning, creating associated documentation.
  • Support business case creation and drive key requirements gathering from business & stakeholders (cross-functional, cross-departmental and external as required).
  • Bring clarity to sponsor, teams, and stakeholders by defining and documenting program objectives, requirements, success criteria, KPIs, roadmap/E2E planning, risk, dependencies, and cost estimates.
  • Drive Program or Portfolio of Programs plan(s) execution, ensuring objectives are met on agreed timelines.
  • Bring program(s) to completion ensuring seamless Go-Live and smooth handover to operations.
  • Track and report status and progress of all streams of work, identifying and highlighting risks, issues, and dependencies to governance groups.

Governance and Delivery

  • Oversee the successful delivery of a highly complex program or portfolio of programs with an efficient governance for progress control and fast decision making.
  • Design and implement Portfolio's governance ensuring clarity on accountability, efficient communication, and decision making.
  • Drive the progress and successful delivery of a set of large business initiatives that bring significant value to the business.
  • Connect the dots and identify synergies, opportunities, and risks/dependencies across projects/programs and elevate them at the portfolio level where appropriate.

Stakeholder Management and Change Leadership

  • Productively interacts and manages senior stakeholders up to VP and MD level.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the business to identify & build action plans to improve the impact and experience for customers, business, and people (creating win-win).
  • Act as an exemplary role in change management best practices, including "embracing change/ growth" mindset.
  • Encourage people to become change agents & embrace change.
  • Prepare and lead workshops independently to support the delivery of the Program(s).

Craft Methodology and Standards

  • Lead by example on both Strategy and Project & Program management craft best practices and behaviors.
  • Provide thought leadership, advice & support on Strategy and Program Management crafts including setting high quality standards both within the department as well as influence outside.
  • Be responsible for using the agreed Strategy and Program Management resources/ways of working within the Finance Department and support the introduction of recognized Program methodologies inside the wider team.
  • Actively contribute to establish and maintain the Strategy & Program Management craft within Booking.com

Qualifications & Skills:

Strategic Thinking

  • Can break down complex, ill-defined business problems into clear project definition, with well articulated workstreams to solve
  • Has a mature understanding of Booking and the travel / OTA industry (consumer preferences, competition etc.)
  • Is highly proficient in performing complex analytical tasks and can also scope the analysis for others
  • Can develop high quality solutions to business problems which drive significant business impact
  • Demonstrate ability to think creatively and "connect the dots" to create high quality solutions which drive significant business impact

Program/Project Expertise

  • Strong project management skills/experience, incl. experience with a range of different methodologies and techniques, and successful program delivery
  • Background in Agile Project management (Kanban, Scrum, SAFE), PMI/ Prince certification and / or LEAN an advantage

Communication

  • Fluent in English (written and verbal)
  • Has ability to craft persuasive narratives & communicate effectively on complex projects
  • Is a highly effective & clear presenter, and can very effectively adapt style to their audience
  • Has ability to develop trust and credibility with senior stakeholders with their communication style
  • Is a highly effective communicator who is credible & trusted by senior audiences and a strong facilitator of large groups (15+) and/or challenging groups
  • Is an excellent influencer in all groups up, enables department leadership. Influences and manages SVP/VP level and enables them to lead change.

Impact & Delivery

  • Can independently manage multiple complex project/programs on their own
  • Has ability to manage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including senior management (VPs/ Senior VPs) with competing priorities
  • Can lead cross functional collaboration in a highly matrix and complex environment

Leadership & Development

  • Can proactively set the mid-term vision for the team / topics of ownership
  • Demonstrates good judgment and can be a trusted, credible advisor to senior leadership (VPs & above)
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor & support junior team members
  • Ability & commitment to learn fast and adapt to a fast moving environment
