Legal Counsel - Competition & Consumer

The Role: The Legal Counsel - Competition & Consumer is running requests for information from authorities or external stakeholders globally and collaborates closely with the business on the implementation of regulations and product changes, as needed with support from a senior team member.
The Competition and Consumer Law team is based in Amsterdam and Brussels and can facilitate candidates in those locations.
Key responsibilities:
- Running requests for information from authorities or external stakeholders;
- Support with the implementation of regulation and compliance projects;
- Proactively keeping up to date with new legislation and market developments whilst anticipating any upcoming legal change and ensuring Booking.com's compliance;
- Working closely with other team members and the wider Legal & Public Affairs department to ensure the team is aligned across jurisdictions and on-going cases.
- Efficiently collecting and analysing input from business teams, partnering with other legal teams, and escalating any critically strategic decisions.
- Presenting and providing recommendations on complex matters, advising Booking.com's leadership team on legal risks and the appropriate trade offs
- Actively maintaining legal budget for owned matters, ensuring external counsel are effectively managed.
Skills and experience required:
- At least Bachelor degree and admission to practise in at least one jurisdiction
- 3 - 5 years previous experience in law firms, regulators and/or multinational companies working on complex regulatory matters across jurisdictions
- Has experience advising the business on competition law, consumer law and, ideally, related regulatory matters;
- Basic project management experience and commercial awareness
- Is proactive and has the ability to work to tight schedules and prioritize based on deadlines set;
- Ability to combine high quality legal work and organizational requirements (including budget setting)
- Is a great teammate and excellent communicator, easily adapting to change and has the ability to resolve complex legal issues with efficiency and pragmatism;
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, and, ideally, one other language;
- Thinks out of the box, and has an innovative and creative approach to problem solving.
- Familiarity with data and AI rules applicable to online platforms.

- Ability to build constructive relationships across the business.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively communicate in small/medium groups; strong influencer in 1:1 and small groups.
