The Rides Commercial team exists to ensure we have the strongest possible relationships, contracts, quality and commercials within Rides, ensuring we deliver a best in class offer to our customers and our Partners.

The Commercial Manager role is responsible for owning and executing Booking.com's commercial strategy. They must demonstrate excellent leadership skills to manage a team of people, an ability to build deep, supportive relationships and and successfully negotiating best market rates, rebates & commercial benefits and deals to support our stretching business objectives within a key scaling period for the Rides business.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for inspiring a culture of high performance, delivering outstanding commercial results and for the overall management of their team. As well as ensuring we have the correct resource, team structures, values and behaviours within their team in order to optimise our relationships with all partners.
  • Line management of 4 x Account Managers: ensuring their strategies for their region management are executed and targets met, ensuring daily people management processes and wider business people initiatives are promoted, actions and understood, support with their development & provide coaching and support where necessary, role modelling.
  • Responsible for delivering commercial targets for all Partners within their remit, Responsible for around 50% of Rides volume globally.
  • Responsible for weekly trading reporting to Senior Management
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve process efficiencies, reporting capabilities and data ownership within the department via key initiatives and improvement projects, leading on solution scoping and implementation, and working collaboratively with Seniors, Account Managers, Commercial Assistants and other stakeholders to initiate change activity across the department.
  • First point of contact for Senior/Account Managers with issues such as departmental project queries, identified regional challenges/market performance issues, tooling performance improvements.
  • Leading & ensuring the team lead quarterly and annual business reviews externally with partners to ensure we are driving the strongest possible commercial results
  • Driving a high performance culture amongst the team. Supports the development of individuals within the organization. Steers and directs people and teams to allow them to achieve both organizational and individual objectives.
  • Lead and own the execution of the Rides commercial strategy, ensuring that core commercial objectives and OKRs are translated into a clear and tailored actionable plan for each Partner within their remit
  • Developing and strengthening relationships with key and strategic Partners, influencing key decision makers to adopt our business initiatives; including but not limited to quality metrics, API (partner connectivity) and Driver Events.
  • Execute the Quality strategy for Partners within the relevant remit, by delivering department efficiencies and enhanced support through the Commercial Assistants team. Identify efficiencies via analysis of Partner performance metrics and coordinating improvements in collaboration with other internal departments as needed(eg, Product & CS)
  • Represent Booking.com in market visits/conferences and at local and regional tourism and industry events, contributing to the creation of presentation materials and Partner communications strategy, in order to develop ever stronger partnerships, driving our mutual business and ensuring close relationships with local stakeholders.
  • Responsible for driving innovation across our marketplace by influencing supply partners to adopt new services and products, and collaborating tightly with Product to ensure Partner or Commercial needs are prioritised
  • Takes the lead and an active role with our collaboration & communication with stakeholders
  • Lead projects focused on data insights and reporting improvements for the commercial team and partners, working collaboratively with Insights teams. Take ownership for all data utilised within the department, ensuring that processes support accurate, efficient and compliant data capture and that data and reporting is used consistently across the team.
  • Lead projects focused on supply tooling improvements for the commercial team and partners and new products for the customers, working collaboratively with Product Owners, Insights team, CS, Legal, Tax and Finance teams. Ensuring the Rides Comercial team are represented across internal working groups and utilizing/providing data to support decision making.
  • Support the wider team in the absence of other managers/Head of, actively participate in senior manager commercial meetings with the department leadership team, providing feedback and insight on various topics, such as proposed commercial and team objectives, team performance and delivery, and project updates; supporting the Commercial Managers and department leadership team in the roll out and execution of team and department plans.
  • Effectively communicate wider business updates and department strategy, ensuring team objectives are aligned and understood.
  • Appropriately manage team members in line with people related business policies and processes. Ensuring both daily people management processes and wider business lead people initiatives are promoted, actioned and understood within the team.
  • Collaborate with support functions such as the Recruitment team and People team, to ensure effective delivery of department targets through effective recruitment, onboarding of new team members, and people management.
  • Be a role model for company policies and procedures, values and behaviours, and ensure their team understands and adheres to them
  • Understand the development needs of team members and provide coaching, training and support as necessary, liaising with centres of excellence such as Learning & Development and the People Team where required.
  • Creates, fosters and promotes a safe, open & engaging office environment where regular and constructive feedback is encouraged and provided

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Commercial Manager
  • Advanced commercial skills including proven track record in negotiation
  • Excellent Leadership and Line Management experience & skills
  • Solution oriented and result driven
  • Advanced data analysis skills, with the ability to evaluate opportunities and present data-driven insights.
  • Extensive stakeholder Management & ability to build relationships at Senior & C level
  • Project management skills with experience leading cross functional working groups/projects
  • Strong work ethic; self-directed and resourceful
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams in an international environment
  • Strong Financial acumen
  • Change Management
