Senior Manager, Service Delivery, Capability Engineering, Global Commercial & Medical IT
About This Role:
Biogen is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic leader to join the Capability Engineering (CE) team, serving the Commercial and Medical business globally. This role is uniquely focused on two key areas: driving technical transformation across diverse global teams and overseeing operational management for CE.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in DevOps practices, coupled with strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills to influence teams that do not directly report to them. They will measurably improve solution delivery performance across all CE DevOps workstreams by collaborating with global teams to implement effective foundational processes, automation, tools, and metrics. The Senior Manager will also act as a key partner to senior leadership in managing the Capability Engineering operations by ensuring the efficient tracking of CE initiatives and technology.
What You'll Do:
Technical Transformation
- Lead the implementation of foundational DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, observability, test automation, and release automation across 15+ teams.
- Drive alignment and adoption of standardized tools, processes, and methodologies to improve delivery performance.
- Act as a subject matter expert, guiding teams through technical change with hands-on support and leadership.
- Champion collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement in engineering practices.
Operations Management
- Oversee day-to-day operational management for CE, including tracking initiatives, resource capacity, performance metrics, license usage, budget, spend, and contracts.
- Provide regular reporting and insights, facilitating discussions with senior leadership on operational performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Drive unification of operational KPIs across CE teams to enable better decision-making and efficiency.

Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of relevant work experience with business technology, including in a DevOps role with a strong understanding of DevOps principles, practices, and tools.
- Proven track record of driving DevOps adoption or leading technical transformations in a matrixed environment.
- Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins), monitoring tools (e.g., LogicMonitor, Cloudwatch, and Datadog) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
Preferred Skills:
Technical Skills
- Deep understanding of DevOps practices: CI/CD pipelines, release automation, observability, and test automation.
- Hands-on experience in technology delivery: Ability to guide teams through tool implementation and process changes.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and engineering enablement best practices. Experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodologies is a plus.
- Knowledge of enterprise software development and cloud-based platforms.
- Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, PMP, Certified ScrumMaster are a plus
Leadership Skills
- Demonstrated leadership in driving process improvements and technological advancements
- Proven ability to drive change through influence rather than direct authority.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to align diverse teams toward common goals.
- Experience working in global organizations, managing diverse stakeholders across regions.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
Operational Management Skills
- Experience tracking complex and multiple technology initiatives, tracking KPIs, and reporting to senior leadership.
- Ability to consolidate operational metrics and provide actionable insights.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, cost forecasting, and vendor management.
- Broad business technology knowledge and skills, preferably in the life sciences industry.
