Senior Category Manager, Direct Materials
About This Role:
As a Senior Category Manager for Direct Materials, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing and innovating key categories crucial to Biogen's operational footprint. Reporting to the Associate Director of Global Strategic Sourcing, this position sits on the Global Strategic Sourcing team, focusing on the direct material space for internal manufacturing operations, including categories like chemicals, filters, and resins. You will be responsible for managing category strategies and sourcing initiatives across various modalities, such as Biologics, Oral Solid Dosage, Parenteral filling, ASOs, and Clinical Label & Packaging. This Senior Manager will ensure the needs of the business are met by leading category management, sourcing strategies, and sourcing process from defining business needs, knowledge of supply marketplace, executing RFx events, lead contract negotiations, supply risk management, and supplier relationship management.
What You'll Do:
- Lead subcategories within Biogen's Direct Materials category to develop and implement strategies.
- Support globalization of processes to drive efficiency, leverage, and savings.
- Lead cross-functional teams using spend data analytics, market research, and cost modeling to identify high-value opportunities.
- Partner with stakeholders to build relationships that facilitate business value and savings.
- Regularly monitor the market to understand leading practices and changes in market conditions.
- Develop and implement global strategic sourcing initiatives for cost efficiency, supplier performance, and risk management.
- Champion ongoing continuous improvement and ensure efficiency of events through RFx events.
- Lead negotiations and contract management to ensure best practices.
- Execute supplier management activities, providing oversight and development based on defined criteria.
- Serve as a partner for critical suppliers, managing business review planning and issue escalations.
- Collaborate with global stakeholders to align sourcing strategies with business objectives.
Who You Are:
You are an experienced procurement professional with a strong background in sourcing and negotiation within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry. You thrive in a collaborative environment, engaging with diverse subject-matter experts to enhance category strategies and drive process improvements. You excel in presenting and interacting with senior management and suppliers, leveraging your expertise in cGMP materials sourcing.
Required Skills:
- 7+ years of direct procurement experience in raw materials, manufacturing, or supply chain within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Accomplished in category management with expertise in Large Molecule Direct, Small Molecule, Antisense Oligonucleotide (ASO) or Parenteral Fill Materials Procurement.
- Strong experience in negotiation of contract and commercial terms.
- Strong project management skills with ability to plan, assign resources, manage progress, remove barriers, manage change, resolve conflict, build consensus, and motivate team members across multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills to tailor messages to different audiences.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or a related field.

Preferred Skills:
- C.P.M./CPSM certification desirable.

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $120,000.00-$161,000.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
