Scientist II, Small Molecule Process Development and Manufacturing
About This Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and creative individual to join our Small Molecule Chemical Development team. This position provides an exciting opportunity to develop robust processes for the synthesis of a wide range of Small Molecules across various modalities. This Scientist II position provides experiences in early phase to late phase drug development and exposure to the design and development of manufacturing processes for clinical and commercial therapeutics.

What You'll Do
- Route scouting, design, and implementation of safe, efficient and robust chemical processes for the synthesis of drug candidates.
- Design and execution of experiments to advance the Biogen portfolio. You will be responsible for analyzing, compiling, and sharing data with project teams.
- Develop the fundamental process knowledge needed to support the transition of chemical and biochemical processes from the laboratory manufacturing partners.
- Collaborate with our Analytical Chemistry, Solid Form, Engineering, and Separations colleagues to develop the knowledge and controls needed for the supply of clinical materials and characterization of the process to support regulatory filings.
- Collaborate with development and manufacturing teams to design and conduct laboratory experiments to optimize and/or characterize the synthesis processes of Small Molecule assets with an emphasis on improvement in process understanding, robustness, and productivity.
- Communicate research results effectively by writing research reports and presenting data in team meetings.
- Engage in the CMC activities including authoring CMC section of INDs.
- Interact with Contract Research Organizations as project needs evolve.
- Initiate innovative research projects to improve fundamental understanding and control of Biogen synthetic processes.

Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. with 0-3 years of relevant postdoc experience.
- M.S. with 4+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biotech settings.
- BS with 6+ years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical or biotech settings
- Strong background in the theory and practice of synthetic organic chemistry, including demonstrated understanding of reaction mechanisms, and good problem solving skills
- Experience in route scouting, mechanistic analyses, use of analytical tools (NMR, MS, IR) and purification techniques (chromatography methods).
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Good communication skills and a desire to work in a collaborative team environment

Additional Information
The base compensation range for this role is: $114,000.00-$152,000.00
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
