Research Fellow: HTE Medicinal Chemistry

Yesterday Cambridge, MA

About This Role

Biogen is one of the world's leading biopharmaceutical companies, with a focus on developing therapies for serious conditions in neurology, immunology, and rare diseases. We are committed to research that uncovers the underlying biology of complex diseases. The High-throughput Experimentation for chemistry (HTE) platform within the Medicinal Chemistry group at Biogen is seeking a Research Fellow to conduct parallel microscale chemistry for reaction screening, optimization, and compound synthesis. The Research Fellow will design, develop, and apply novel synthetic methodologies to create automated high-throughput workflows for our reaction optimization and library synthesis capabilities. The Research Fellow role at Biogen is an 18-month position designed to provide a unique opportunity for scientists to gain exposure to drug discovery and development, high-throughput experimentation, laboratory automation, and train in an industry research setting. In this role, you will collaborate with internal drug discovery programs to deliver high-value targets through HTE.

What You'll Do

  • Your focus will be to design production workflows for high-throughput experimentation in both reaction optimization and parallel medicinal chemistry with a focus on automation.
  • You will have the opportunity to utilize our lab's modern chemistry equipment (UPLC-MS, automated solid and liquid handling, prep-HPLC, gloveboxes, and NMR).
  • As a full member of the med chem team, you will attend project meetings and learn how to apply HTE reaction optimization and parallel synthesis to provide value for drug discovery projects.
  • You will have the opportunity to present results both internally and externally via publications and/or conference presentations

Who You Are

You are a recent Ph.D. graduate with a strong organic chemistry background in synthesis, methodology, or catalysis, who is self-motivated and eager to make impactful contributions to drug discovery. You are passionate about developing novel, cutting-edge, and robust automated chemistry which can be leveraged by you and others for small molecule synthesis. You will be expected to work directly on our HTE platform, heavily integrated with laboratory automation and digital data workflows.
