About This Role:
As a Principal Packaging Engineer, you will be a pivotal member of the Global Packaging team, responsible for the design, development, and life cycle management of packaging solutions for Biogen's diverse portfolio. Your role will focus on integrating product security solutions into packaging components and ensuring alignment with our core values of patient centricity and sustainability. You will collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders to drive innovation and maintain compliance with industry standards. By leading technical aspects of life cycle management activities, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the department, ensuring that our packaging solutions meet commercial and regulatory requirements. Your insights will shape the packaging strategy, focusing on sustainability and product security, and support the continuous improvement of departmental work processes.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop and implement innovative product security packaging solutions aligned with product security risks.
  • Lead life cycle management activities for commercial finished goods, coordinating tasks and ensuring timely completion.
  • Author and oversee technical documentation related to packaging, including design verification and validation protocols.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support business initiatives in packaging protection, sustainability, and innovation.
  • Investigate packaging-related issues and manage quality systems for change control and compliance.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to talent development within the team.
  • Support the management team in refining the Packaging Strategy and enhancing departmental processes.

Required Skills:

  • University degree in Packaging Engineering or a related field.
  • At least 11 years of experience in packaging development, with deep knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a strong understanding of cGMP environments.
  • Proven ability to influence and lead in a dynamic, matrix organization.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and team-building skills.
  • Experience in packaging development and assembly, label and pack processes.

Preferred Skills:

  • Matrix leadership training or competencies.
  • Experience working in complex organizations with multiple stakeholders, markets, and regions.
  • Coaching skills for mentoring junior engineers.
