International Commercial Lead SMA
JOB OVERVIEW
The International Commercial Lead, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) will be the cross-functional leader of the SMA International Center of Excellence, as chair and leader of the 18-24 month brand strategy- setting forums to refine strategy for local market execution with input and alignment across key geographies. The International Commercial Lead will be responsible to lead the cross-functional integrated customer strategy. This role will navigate the international organization through the Spinraza High Dose launch, defining competitive strategies for SMA. In partnership with Value &Access, they will define launch sequence and review business cases for market expansion. Fully responsible for commercial launch excellence and execution. The International Commercial Lead is also responsible to partner with Product Development & Commercialization on lifecycle management initiatives for the SMA franchise which encompasses Thecaflex and salanersen as well as the go-to-market- model.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY
1. Crossfunctional leadership & Affiliates engagement
- Lead the cross-functional partners (Marketing, Medical, Market access, Patient Advocacy Groups /communications, Customer Excellence & Operations, etc.) to evolve the SMA's 18 month integrated customer plan with a high degree of cross-functional alignment and focus
- Lead the International Therapeutic Area Council (ITAC) to co-create the brand strategy by engaging key internal partners of top affiliates
- Lead the communication of the international brand strategy and tactics with the broader organization.
2. Commercial strategy
- Lead a commercial team to deliver content that is on-strategy and delivers guidance and tools to support brand growth objectives; pull through to local markets
- Own end-to-end process of delivering content to support omnichannel digital strategy
- Set and manage an international commercial budget that is reflective of strategies for growth and is based upon sound assumptions
3. Differentiated communication
- Partner with scientific communications, corporate affairs and patient advocacy to develop a powerful differentiated communication for the product that will serve to guide local affiliates on how to leverage relevant data in real time to activate the market effectively and efficiently.
4. Competitive readiness & Metrics
- Conduct in-depth competitive assessments in partnership with Customer & Market Intelligence (CMI) team and assess key brand performance metrics to inform brand strategy. Ensure crisp delivery of metric summaries to leadership
5. Input in Lifecycle management decisions
- Substantiate lifecycle management (LCM) programs and large initiatives through the execution and delivery of business cases to support investment
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree required. MBA highly preferred.
- 12+ years of commercial experience in pharma or biotech; rare disease preferred
- Strong track record of developing robust global marketing strategies to support brand growth goals and strategic alignment across regions; Global and/or affiliate in-line marketing experience required; demonstrated accountability to the P&L preferred
- Fluent in financial reporting and budget management; ability to develop and support a business case for investment
- Demonstrated expertise in building brand architecture that supports global branding, positioning, and competitive messaging
- Strong scientific curiosity w/ ability to extract insights for competitive differentiation
- Excellent leadership skills with 5+ years leading teams directly.
- Clear strength in making difficult decisions to prioritize, motivate a team, and inspire cross-functional partners
- Previous sales experience or roles that demand high interaction with customers are highly valued; pipeline or commercial development experience is welcome
- Analytical and problem-solving mindset to dig into the data to inform strategies
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively write and deliver presentations to professionals at all levels within Biogen and customers
