About the Role:

This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2026. Resume review begins in February 2026.

The Process Biochemistry group develops and characterizes Biogen's downstream unit operations. Unit operations include chromatography, dead end filtration and tangential flow filtration (TFF). This position will support the general characterization of TFF operations.

What You'll Do:

Shifts in retentate pH and excipient concentrations are common during TFF operations. These shifts may be a result the Gibb's Donan effect, or protein exclusion. The candidate chosen for the position will define a "toolbox" to be used to help characterize pH and excipient shifts across TFF unit operations performed at Biogen. This will be accomplished by;

  • Perform a literature review on current understanding of pH and excipient shifts during TFF operations and models used to characterize these shifts
  • Summarize internal data regarding ph and excipient concentration shifts in characterized TFF operations
  • Perform TFF experiments to support mechanistic or empirical models

Who You Are:

  • Familiarity with drug substance downstream unit operations
  • Familiarity with mechanistic or empirical modeling is desirable.
  • Experience performing literature reviews
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management and organizational skills.

To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship.

Education

  • Exceptional undergraduate student who has completed at least three years of program, or a first year Master's program, with 0-2+ years' experience desired
  • Desired majors include: Bio/Chemical Engineering, Biomanufacturing or related field

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $23.00-$29.00

The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate's current academic level and degree candidacy, inclusive of Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, JD, MD, PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
