Head of NMD Marketing
Role Summary
The Head of NMD Marketing is responsible for leading all strategic and commercial marketing activities for the company's NMD portfolio, including future pipeline. This position owns the end-to-end marketing cycle - Situational Analysis, Strategy Development, Action Planning, Execution, and KPI Monitoring - with full accountability for commercial performance, forecast accuracy, launch excellence, and long-term Life Cycle Management (LCM).
Success requires leadership in multiple launch experience, LCM, KOL and congress strategy, early commercial input into development programs, and strong cross-functional collaboration with Medical and Value & Access teams.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Brand Leadership
- Lead comprehensive Situational Analysis, including market insights, competitive intelligence, access landscape, and unmet medical needs
- Develop and execute Brand Strategy → Action Plans → Execution → KPI/ROI tracking
- Lead brand management including future new product launches, with Life Cycle Management (LCM)
- Ensure high accuracy of Financial Forecast & Demand Forecast
- Drive Marketing innovation including omnichannel strategy, digital engagement, and CRM optimization
- Manage P&L and long-term brand value
Medical Collaboration
- Partner closely with Medical Affairs in scientific engagement, scientific communication, clinical insight exchange, and evidence-generation strategy
- Co-develop scientific narratives, disease education, and advocacy strategies aligned with brand priorities
- Ensure compliant collaboration and One-Team approach with Medical
Early Commercial Input into Development Programs
- Provide early commercial insights to shape clinical development, regulatory strategy, and medical evidence planning
- Collaborate with Medical and Global Development to align Target Product Profile (TPP) and commercial positioning
- Support evidence-generation strategy, including RWE planning and endpoint prioritization
- Contribute to scenario planning and launch sequencing decisions
Value, Access & Pricing Collaboration
- Work closely with Value & Access / Market Access teams to support:
- Pricing & reimbursement strategy
- NHI price negotiation and listing processes
- Preparation of value proposition, HEOR, and payer-relevant evidence
- Regulatory support and commercial planning for new diagnostic technologies / testing introduction
- Support strategy for new diagnostic testing approval and reimbursement, enabling improved patient identification and access
KOL Engagement & Scientific Congress Strategy
- Build and expand strategic relationships with KOLs and treatment centers
- Lead Advisory Boards, scientific exchange, and expert panel engagements
- Plan and execute medical congress strategy, including symposia, booth plans, and scientific platform alignment
Patient Insight & Patient-Centric Innovation
- Develop patient journey insights to shape strategies and value creation
- Build partnerships with patient organizations and caregiver networks to develop support programs and improve real-world experiences
Cross-Functional & Global Collaboration
- Partner with Sales, Compliance, Government Affairs, Supply Chain, Finance, and other functions to enable integrated execution
- Represent Japan within global/region governance, share insights, and localize global direction
People Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop high-performing marketing talent
- Foster a culture of agility, ownership, innovation, and patient-centricity
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of pharmaceutical marketing experience
- Proven leadership experience in Specialty markets
- Multiple new product launch leadership experience
- Strong LCM experience, including indication expansion / formulation & administration enhancement / patient segment expansion
- Experience collaborating with Medical Affairs and Value/Market Access teams, including pricing, reimbursement, and diagnostic / testing strategy
- Experience leading Advisory Boards, KOL engagement, and scientific congress strategy
- Experience providing early commercial input into development programs
- Demonstrated capability in Strategic planning → Execution → KPI/ROI evaluation
- Strong experience ensuring forecast accuracy
- Strong cross-functional and global stakeholder engagement capability
- Business-level English
- Knowledge of Japan regulatory, pricing, and promotional compliance systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with patient advocacy and insight-based program development
- Experience with omnichannel & digital marketing
- MBA or advanced business / leadership education preferred
- Experience in specialty pharma / biotech / agile commercial environments
