About This Role:

As the Head of Engineering/Facilities & Automation at our Athlone site, you will be a pivotal member of the Site Leadership Team and the Biogen PO&T Global Engineering & Facilities Leadership Team. Leading a dedicated team of approximately 20 professionals, you will manage the engineering and facilities operations supporting manufacturing, laboratory, office, and site infrastructure. Your role encompasses overseeing manufacturing engineering, facilities engineering, maintenance, calibration, site Automation and various site services. You are accountable for the execution of small capital projects and representing the site in larger capital endeavours. Your leadership will ensure compliance with corporate policies, cGMP, EHS, and other regulations, fostering a culture of safety and compliance. With a focus on developing strategic goals, you will drive innovation and digital transformation across the site, maintaining a high-performing, diverse, and inclusive team. Your expertise will be essential in managing budgets and contributing to the overall success of the site.

This position requires working on site in Athlone for 5 days per week.

What You'll Do:

  • Supervise and direct teams for planning and executing engineering, Automation and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor department performance and manage staff, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
  • Ensure compliance with site policies and regulations, promoting a safety-focused mindset.
  • Manage equipment design, installation, commissioning, and qualification to ensure compliant manufacturing processes.
  • Oversee site automation and support technology transfer processes.
  • Forecast and manage repairs and maintenance, as well as site capital expense budgets.
  • Identify and implement system improvements and capital upgrades.
  • Provide leadership in engineering and facilities functions, ensuring 24x7 coverage of site utilities.
  • Conduct talent reviews and create succession plans to develop future leaders.
  • Drive strategic priorities for the site, fostering a culture of innovation.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or directly related discipline.
  • Significant and proven years of experience with a focus on GMP manufacturing.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining engineering, facilities, and maintenance programs for major sites.
  • Working knowledge of the life cycle of process equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure systems.
  • Demonstrated management experience and track record in contractor and partner safety metrics.
  • Experience in campus utility infrastructure design and maintenance.
  • OpEx/CapEx budgeting experience.
  • Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and guidance.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functionally.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with digital transformation initiatives in manufacturing settings.
  • Strong connectivity to trends and developments in pharma/biotech standards and guidelines.
