About This Role:

As the Head of Corporate Affairs, North America, you will be at the forefront of shaping and implementing an integrated corporate affairs strategy that aligns with the region's business objectives. This pivotal role encompasses product public communications, internal communications, issues management, and executive communications. You will counsel the North America President and Senior Management team, providing insights, highlighting opportunities, and designing strategies to address evolving reputation trends and elevate the profile of Biogen and the President within the community. Your expertise in writing will enable you to capture the President's voice and translate their vision into impactful internal and external programs. Additionally, you will oversee patient advocacy engagement and represent North America's needs in global corporate affairs initiatives, branding, and corporate responsibility strategies. This role involves leading Biogen's Corporate Affairs collaboration with key partners and playing a significant role in preparing for successful launches in areas such as Rare Disease, Lupus, and Nephrology. Your leadership and ability to navigate a matrix organization will be crucial in driving business strategies through impactful communication programs that effectively position the company with key stakeholders.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead a team to drive North America product Public Relations in collaboration with Marketing, Global Communications, Public Policy, and Patient Advocacy teams.
  • Provide strategic counsel to the North America President on communications impacting Biogen's reputation.
  • Lead external digital and thought leadership strategy for the NA President to enhance Biogen's reputation.
  • Develop and execute PR strategy and drive plan execution, messaging, initiatives, and impactful media programs.
  • Hire and manage PR agencies to support multiple launches in multiple therapeutic areas.
  • Lead the development and execution of internal communication strategies to support culture and organizational change management.
  • Advise North America Leadership team on addressing employee and cultural opportunities effectively.
  • Anticipate and manage issues related to commercial operations to mitigate potential escalation.
  • Drive earned media strategies to generate proactive media placements supporting Biogen's reputation.
  • Prepare executives for media interviews and develop talking points for message deliverables.
  • Advise and guide global Patient Advocacy and Value and Access teams on US operations matters.
  • Support Biogen's brand and reputation through strategic input into global corporate affairs initiatives.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required, ideally in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 15 years of Corporate Affairs experience, particularly in Commercial Communications, with expertise in healthcare industry dynamics
  • Excellent executive presence. Proven ability to influence senior management and translate their vision into impactful executive communications
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel 20-25%
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
  • Ability to understand and communicate scientific information in simple terms to diverse audiences.
  • Direct media interaction and patient advocacy involvement.
  • Excellent follow-through, attention to detail, and high sense of urgency.
  • Experience managing issues and crises related to corporate reputation.
  • Strong collaboration skills across investor relations, legal, regulatory, and compliance.
  • Ability to influence without authority and work across functions and personalities.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and ability to prioritize workload effectively.
  • Creative, innovative, agile, and flexible in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong networking skills with external stakeholders and community engagement.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $260,000.00-$367,000.00

Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
