About the Role:

This application is for a 6-month student role from July - December 2026. Resume review begins in February 2026.

The Immunology Research Unit is focused on the development of therapies for patients suffering from autoimmune diseases. This position offers an opportunity to work with experienced drug discovery scientists as part of a collaborative cross-functional team. The co-op will gain experience in designing and executing hands-on experiments to answer key scientific questions to advance a research program.

What You'll Do:

As a co-op, you will work side-by-side with experienced scientists to learn and become independent in primary human peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) in vitro assays. Using your training, you will address key biology questions aimed at understanding innate immune cell function, its contribution to autoimmunity, and opportunities for modulation of critical pathways. This will include assisting the biology team in designing, optimizing, and executing in vitro assays and analyzing the effect of experimental therapeutics on immune responses. You will have the opportunity to present your results with the broader Cambridge Immunology team and project team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Assist with design and execution of in vitro immunological assays (e.g., flow cytometry, ELISA, western blotting)
  • Isolate human peripheral mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and enrich for desired cell types
  • Analyze experimental results and present findings at lab meetings.
  • Maintain accurate electronic lab notebooks
  • Follow all safety and compliance procedures

Who You Are:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative nature.
  • Strong curiosity for science and eagerness to learn in a hands-on environment.
  • Prior laboratory experience (academic or industry) is desirable.

To participate in the Biogen Internship or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date.
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university or skills program/apprenticeship.

Education Requirements

  • Degree level(s): Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program
  • Preferred majors/programs: Biology, Immunology, or Related Field

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $23.00-$27.00

The actual hourly wage offered will consider the candidate's current academic level and degree candidacy, inclusive of Associate, Bachelor's, Master's, JD, MD, PhD and MBA programs. It will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements specific to the job location.
