Project Overview:
Several combined cycle power projects are currently planned to be developed and executed by Bechtel over the next 5-10 years. During the development phase of these projects, teams will be organized to support multiple projects concurrently.
Following project award, dedicated project teams will be formed and the Principal Engineer Electrical will have functional oversight for the combined cycle power projects.
Job Summary:
The Substation Package Lead will be a solid leader and collaborator who will oversee the execution of prefabricated substation buildings by 3 rd party supplier. In this role, you will utilize individual technical knowledge to interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate with the subcontractor for the substation execution scope. You will participate in coordination meetings, project planning, monitoring the schedule, and delivery of critical equipment to ensure that the vendor is on track to meet the project schedule. Your technical guidance and recommendations will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements and remain within scope and budget.

In this role, you will serve as a liaison for Bechtel and the building supplier. You will have oversight of all aspects of the scope being executed by the building supplier and coordinate with the Bechtel team to ensure that any input needed by supplier is being provided in a timely manner. You will participate in technical reviews at the factory for critical deliverables. Your technical expertise will ensure the unique and complex requirements of the project's electrical design are met.
This role is an assignment based in Houston at the Bechtel office. #LI-JL1
Major Responsibilities:
- Interface and coordinate with key stakeholders including Bechtel India engineering, construction, supply chain, expediting, traffic & logistics, building supplier, and switchgear supplier.
- Identify critical issues that could impact progress and bring to the attention of the stakeholders. Provide recommendations to mitigate such issues.
- Attend in-person meetings on a regular basis with building and switchgear vendors to ensure smooth progress of design activities. Represent the Bechtel design team in the meetings and provide input to resolve critical issues expeditiously.
- Monitor overall progress of the purchase order, provide input to overall Bechtel project schedule, identify any constraints and follow escalation pathways if required.
- Track vendor print progress working closely with the expediting team.
- Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at the switchgear vendor's factory and building vendor facility.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires diploma or bachelor's (or international equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or closely related field and 15+ years of relevant experience.
- Must have at least 5 years of prior experience as an Electrical Engineering Group Supervisor or a Project Engineer or a Lead Field Engineer on complex self-perform projects.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to select and specify electrical equipment for LV and MV systems such as power panels, switchgear, MCCs and transformers.
- Extensive experience with managing substation packages as Responsible Engineer or Project lead.
- Working knowledge of electrical system design codes and standards including IEEE, IEC and NFPA 70.
- Prior experience with attending Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of switchgear, protective relays, and substations is preferred.
