Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland's nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
This position works independently to provide technical writing and editing support to multiple departments for a variety of document types such as plans, procedures, presentations, white papers, and other similar technical documents. This position will also support the Communications department and PMT Management with composing and editing various document types intended for internal and external customers such as project and client personnel as well as other internal/external stakeholders. This position will be located at the Warsaw Office and report to the Senior Technical Editor Supervisor located in the Reston, Virginia Office.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Plan, write, edit, and proofread moderate to complex documents and other print and electronic media. Plan the format of documents, organize content, and edit text and graphics. Provide evaluation of legibility of provided graphics, adherence of fonts, etc. with project guidance
- Review document requirements (including content and schedule) with internal customers
- Recommend and coordinate document formatting and graphics design, resolving editorial and/or content issues and providing additional editorial support
- Edit or rewrite pre-drafted documents, ensuring material is structured and formatted logically and that inconsistencies are resolved
- Interface on a routine basis with a variety of project personnel providing support / responding to questions
- Monitor job progress and alert responsible supervisor when schedule appears to be in jeopardy, providing production data for performance metrics as needed
- Responsible for electronic file management, which may include access and configuration control and document and resource files such as photos and support matter
- Maintain a project style guide
- Assist with maintaining the project acronym list
- Create or revise forms and templates
- Conduct research to support document production
- May assist with translation and formatting of technical documents and media (English/Polish)
- Assist with or coordinate with offsite technical editing support personnel as needed
- Position may require travel, both domestic and international
- Ability to work overtime with little to no advanced notice as needed
- Perform other O&AS administrative duties as assigned by supervisor to support the Warsaw Office
- During the absence of the office receptionist, you may be requested to provide receptionist coverage by sitting at the front desk to greet guest, directing them to meeting rooms and determining refreshment preference i.e. Coffee, tea or water plus must deliver coffee, tea, or water to our guest.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Communication, English, Journalism, or related field and Four (4) years of experience in technical publications production. In lieu of a degree, two (2) years of progressive, relevant experience in technical publications production
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education
- Must be able to demonstrate intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. A skills assessment may be administered to determine proficiency
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills (C2 - Proficient in English and Polish), including spelling, grammar, punctuation and proper use of syntax. A skills assessment may be administered to determine proficiency
- Must be fluent in Polish and English (speaking, reading, and writing)
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
Possesses proficiency with standard document formatting/editing/production software, including electronic comment incorporation, importing graphic files, formatting tables, and developing and applying templates
Possesses basic knowledge of technical vocabularies and terminology used by various Engineering disciplines, Construction and Startup departments
Possesses knowledge of standard editing/proofreading marks and online editing/proofreading skills
Possesses knowledge of production methods and techniques
Demonstrates knowledge of formatting, editing, grammatical, and English grammatical writing styles (e.g., Chicago, MLA, APA, other international standards)
Functions well in a fast-paced environment and deals with pressure in a professional manner
Works proactively; uses individual initiative; follows assignments to completion; and is attentive to detail, quality control, and deadlines
Can independently work on simple to highly complex jobs while exercising individual initiative, discretion, diplomacy, and judgment
Experience interfacing with authors, subject matter experts, publications staff, and document control staff while preparing and coordinating a full range of technical documentation and other publication products
Possesses a high degree of flexibility
Has strong interpersonal skills and a proven record as a team player
Possess the ability to translate technical documents and media between English and Polish as needed
Possesses good oral and written communication skills
Possesses good organizational and customer service skills
Effectively deals with and quickly adjusts to changing priorities
Possesses the ability to work effectively within an electronic document management system
Possesses experience in Microsoft SharePoint
Possesses experience with Adobe Creative Suite
Continually demonstrates sustained commitment to Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" policy and support for Bechtel's safety program through personal safe behavior/work practices, following all safety rules and procedures, and reporting unsafe work practices/situations
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous work experience on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project as a Technical Editor
Possesses current/prior experience in a construction or plant operations environment
Possesses experience with Adobe Creative Suite
Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Visio
Possesses current/prior experience with editing program-level documents under strict deadlines
Possesses current/prior experience with tracking/maintaining department metrics
Demonstrates familiarity with a variety of Bechtel project documents (e.g., plans, procedures, policies) and their review, comment resolution, and approval process
Previous experience working in a customer service-oriented field
Knowledge of Bechtel's organizational structure, functions and procedures
