Project Overview
Fab 62 is an advanced semiconductor fabrication facility for Intel Corporation, located at Intel's Ocotillo campus in Chandler, Arizona. As part of this work, the M&T team is responsible for delivering the engineering, procurement, and construction scope required to complete and finish-out a leading-edge chipmaking facility - a highly demanding environment where precision, cleanliness, schedule certainty, and coordination across thousands of craft and professional personnel are essential to success. The project supports the continued expansion of domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity, contributing to a more resilient technology supply chain while creating significant opportunity for the local Arizona workforce. Joining the Fab 62 team means contributing directly to one of the most strategically important construction efforts in the United States and helping deliver the infrastructure behind the next generation of microelectronics.
Job Summary:
The Lead Instrumentation Field Engineer is responsible for the technical leadership, planning, coordination, and execution oversight of instrumentation and controls systems across assigned project areas. The role leads the instrumentation field engineering organization, establishes technical priorities, drives workface readiness, and ensures instrumentation systems are installed, tested, documented, and turned over in accordance with project requirements. The Lead Instrumentation Field Engineer serves as the primary technical authority for instrumentation execution and provides leadership to field engineers, construction supervision, quality personnel, subcontractors, and commissioning teams. #LI-CL1
Major Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
- Serves as the primary technical authority for instrumentation and controls construction activities.
- Leads instrumentation field engineering personnel and establishes technical standards, priorities, and execution expectations.
- Reviews and approves technical approaches, field solutions, RFIs, and engineering clarifications affecting instrumentation scope.
- Ensures consistent application of project specifications, standards, and best practices across all project areas.

Planning and Workface Readiness
- Leads development and implementation of instrumentation work packages, installation work packages, and field execution plans.
- Ensures engineering deliverables, materials, permits, access, tools, and supporting disciplines are aligned to support execution.
- Drives constraint identification and removal activities.
- Supports AWP implementation and readiness planning activities.
Construction and Execution Support
- Coordinates instrumentation activities with electrical, mechanical, piping, controls, commissioning, and startup organizations.
- Supports construction supervision in resolving field issues, productivity challenges, and technical execution risks.
- Ensures instrumentation scope is sequenced and executed to support project milestones and turnover objectives.
- Provides technical leadership during major installation, testing, and startup activities.
Quality and Turnover Management
- Ensures instrumentation installations comply with project specifications, codes, vendor requirements, and quality standards.
- Oversees inspections, calibration activities, loop checks, testing programs, and turnover documentation.
- Drives resolution of NCRs, punch items, and quality concerns.
- Ensures instrumentation systems are delivered complete, tested, documented, and ready for commissioning.
Commissioning and Startup Readiness
- Leads coordination between construction, commissioning, and startup teams for instrumentation scope.
- Supports system walkdowns, readiness reviews, loop checking, functional testing, and integrated systems testing activities.
- Establishes turnover priorities aligned with commissioning and startup objectives.
- Identifies and resolves readiness gaps that could impact startup milestones.
Progress and Performance Management
- Monitors instrumentation progress, productivity, manpower utilization, and execution performance.
- Supports forecasting of labor requirements, material needs, and completion dates.
- Provides instrumentation progress reporting and performance analysis to project leadership.
- Develops corrective actions and recovery plans when execution deviates from project objectives.
Team Leadership and Development
- Provides leadership, coaching, mentoring, and development for instrumentation field engineers.
- Establishes consistent work processes, technical standards, and field engineering expectations.
- Supports staffing, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning activities.
- Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8 -10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of industrial instrumentation, analyzers, control systems, field communications, tubing systems, and instrumentation installation practices.
- Strong understanding of DCS, PLC, SCADA, networking, fieldbus architectures, industrial Ethernet, and modern automation systems.
- Experience leading instrumentation field engineering organizations on large industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, energy, mining, chemical, or M&T projects.
- Strong understanding of construction planning, workface planning, AWP principles, and constraint management.
- Deep knowledge of commissioning, loop checking, functional testing, system turnover, startup, and operational readiness processes.
- Ability to interpret instrument indexes, loop diagrams, hookup drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, vendor documentation, and control narratives.
- Strong understanding of project quality systems, turnover requirements, and technical documentation management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience supporting schedule management, productivity improvement, risk mitigation, and execution recovery planning.
- Ability to lead through technical expertise, influence, and collaboration across multiple organizations.
