Project Overview:
The Knoxville Engineering Office is the engineering execution center for Bechtel's Nuclear, Security, & Environmental business line, providing engineering design development and support to multiple large complex projects. Projects executed out of this office are primarily large government works throughout various sectors, including DOD and DOE.
Job Summary:
This position is for an Electrical Engineer who will prepare designs for electrical systems for various projects. The successful candidate must have good organizational and teamwork skills, established problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.
This role will be based in Knoxville, TN, with periodic business travel required.
Major Responsibilities:
- Primary engineering activities will be to provide the engineering design for electrical systems and equipment for the entire facility in preparation for procurement and construction.
- Individual must have an understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, system descriptions, schematics, electrical equipment layout, and be able to perform cable sizing calculations.
- Perform special tasks and calculations/studies.
- Conduct checking as required.
- Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements, for applicability to electrical design documents, specifications, material requisitions, and system descriptions related to design tasks.
- Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry-established concepts and procedures.
- Must work well with others, other disciplines, and groups.
- Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team. Must be able to work well with other disciplines and functions.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited university, with 1-2 years of related electrical engineering experience.
- US citizenship is required. This role requires a facility-specific clearance that requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Possess active security clearance or ability to obtain security clearance.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
- FE/EIT Certification or able to obtain within 12 months of employment.
- Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NFPA, ANSI/IEEE, etc.).
- Working knowledge on electrical systems, schematics, and electrical equipment layouts.
- Working knowledge of electrical equipment specification and material requisition process, and developing procurement documentation.
- Experience with industry-wide electrical design tools, such as CAD 2D, ETAP, and electronic Cable Management System.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Experience with SETROUTE program and be able to input and complete corrections to the database.
- Knowledge of Bechtel corporate guides and standards.
- Experience in facility construction, start-up, and maintenance practices.
- Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
