Job Summary:
In this role, you will lead a team and supervise superintendents and/or craft professionals on a project. You will direct craft professional activities and work schedules, and coordinate subcontract work activities and team development. Your oversight will ensure craft professionals have the tools required to be productive, comply with project policies, procedures, and job site work rules and procedures, and perform within specifications, schedules and budgets.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership".
Major Responsibilities:
The Construction Manager (Civils) supports the the monitoring of construction related activity on very large, strategically important projects (typically above £100m), or across multiple projects within a defined programme of works - all in a live operational environment.
- Input into constructability reviews to optimise construction sequencing, logistics, and methodology.
- Coordinate with engineering and design consultants to ensure construction requirements are reflected in design deliverables.
- Support the development of site layouts, temporary works strategies, logistics and phasing plans for construction in a live operational environment.
- Assist in developing overall construction execution plans, staffing strategies, and resource estimates.
- Collaborate with Procurement and Supply Chain to develop construction packaging and delivery strategies.
- Ensure health, safety, and environmental (HSE) considerations are embedded in all aspects of design and planning.
- Review and monitor implementation of robust quality control plans during design and construction phases.
- Maintain awareness of design evolution, scope changes, and their potential impacts on construction methods, costs, and schedules.
- Contribute to cost estimates, budgets, risk assessments, and progress reporting for construction scope.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to assigned project and field personnel, promoting a culture of safety, collaboration, and excellence.
- Establishes a design/field engineering working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer including agreement on engineering deliverables.
- Coordinates with design on constructability issues
- Reviews project controls documents on progress relating to cost and schedule
- Ensures the Zero Accident Philosophy is incorporated into all aspects of construction operations.
- Lead any assigned Construction Management resource, support the development of any such assigned resource; maintain standards, manage, motivate, coach and mentor as required. Perform supervisory role to Field Engineers within the wider programme team
- Review contractor Quality and Commissioning submittals (including Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and Daily Reports), reviewing quality and verifying content prior to submission to Project Manager(s).
- Inspect work within relevant discipline to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications,standards and statutory regulations. Produce engineering solutions/field sketches to resolve site based queries, in conjunction with the Design Management Team
- Coordinate with the Design Management Team to deliver effective commissioning and handover of projects through review of as-built information, ensuring quality and completeness in what is delivered against contractual requirements
- Support the Contractor to mobilise successfully (including introductions to Security, Contractor Support Centre and other key stakeholders) including support to logistics planning and making necessary arrangements to support future delivery plans
- Monitor contractor progress against plan and report delays or changes to the project team verbally and produce a daily record of events in the construction management and reporting tool.
- Coordinate with the Design Management Team to deliver effective commissioning and handover of projects through review of as-built information, ensuring quality and completeness in what is delivered against contractual requirements.
- Support the continuous improvement of project delivery processes and procedures and implement process improvements as these are developed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
- Knowledge of construction methods, procedures, and sequencing for civil and airfield works.
- Experience of working on project within live operational facilities.
- Strong knowledge of HSE requirements and proven track record of promoting a safe working culture.
- Significant experience as a Construction Manager/Senior Field Engineer or similar role leading the construction management function on major civil engineering infrastructure projects, holding responsibility for providing constructability advice during early stage development and design, and ensuring that works are delivered safely in line with the design
- Interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to provide sound technical leadership and problem-solving under pressure.
- Excellent understanding of implementation & constructability issues with respect to complex multi-discipline infrastructure or asset improvement projects.
- Excellent understanding and experience in quality management with respect to complex multidiscipline infrastructure or asset improvement projects.
- Excellent understanding of Health Safety & Environmental issues associated with the Construction industry. Good experience of addressing Health Safety &
- Environmental issues associated with the Construction industry highly desirable.
- Good understanding of the importance of controlling and managing the project close out and handover process, with an associated understanding of Building Control requirements.
- Good practical problem solving skills
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration.
- Experience in aviation, airfield, or major transportation infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of UK construction and safety regulations, including CDM requirements.
- Experience with NEC contract administration and project delivery frameworks.
- Prior experience in planning and executing brownfield projects in live environments.
